The Pantyhose Debate!

I think this is about branding. I wear tights. I have the Wolford hose and Sheertex. They are pantyhose, right?, but I call them tights.

I probably own 5-6 pairs of Sheertex. They do not run at all. If you machine wash them, they will get small horizontal lines that look like pantyhose runs.

I wear tights for warmth and after summer when I don’t use bronzer.

I wonder if the pantyhose/stockings debate has a regional aspect because I’m in NJ, work in nYC and definitely wear tights & hose, especially when it’s not summer. I think the only thing that’s really out is thick “nude” or “suntan” hose that looks really obvious. But if I lived somewhere hot I probably would not wear them! Anyway, There’s tons of nice stockings to be had, I buy mine at Macy’s. When I wear a “flesh” toned stocking I usually go super sheer or get something with a subtle pattern or the seams down the back, so it looks more funky than fuddyduddy.

I wear a lot of black tights with shorter skirts in the cooler weather. I feel like that’s still pretty in style? I think black tights would look cute with dress above!

I guess I’m the odd one out. I have absolutely seen stockings or sheer tights (isn’t that the updated term?) in the past few years, usually with a little color or a pattern. I think they are back in. I also think you should wear whatever you are comfortable in.

Yep I get lots of ads for very expensive ones the promise to never run and they come in flesh colors as opposed to dark tights

It may be because of the short/small people like me who always opted for SizeB, even though the package size grid implied that SizeA would work. (A tight squeeze never appealed to me. I avoided control top too.)

I used to wear pantyhose to work every day. The I had my daughter and stopped having to get dressed up. When my daughter had her 8th grade formal (back in 2008), I asked about her needing pantyhose with her fancy short dress. Many friends told me nobody does pantyhose anymore. My 29 yo daughter has never worn pantyhose (has worn black tights) and I have not worn a pair since then either (even when going to “formal” events in a shorter dress).

I generally don’t show my knees in anything (all my dresses and shorts at least cover them). My old lady knees are just not attractive. However, I do not feel self conscious about not having hose to cover my legs when dressed up.

So, my answer is to do whatever you feel comfortable doing. I do think that boots would look good and may make you feel more comfortable without the hose.

I like pantyhose. but clearly have gotten the message that “nobody” wears them anymore. I shouldn’t have been surprised when I told a friend I was going to an August wedding, and the first thing she said was “are you going to wear pantyhose?” Since I don’t like my legs, and my feet/toes aren’t great either (not that anyone would be noticing) ;I decided then and there to forget the leg bronzes and go with the pantyhose. I also wear them to viewings and funerals when I wear a dress.

I would not worry if light colored house are in or out- good hose are hardly noticeable, imo. I bought the Wolford brand after reading about them here ( thx @BunsenBurner ) and they are worth the $. I don’t believe anyone noticed- but I’ll take the warmth and comfort.

As I’ve told my friends, I don’t think anyone is looking at us, at least not that closely so let’s not overthink what we wear:)

Were those the $55 ones? I’ve read reviews about running. So I’m assuming you didn’t have that issue.

Good question as they gave several options. I have 2 pair- I know one are nude tights and I believe the other are the satin option. I have not had any problems with runs.

Goodness I’m still shocked that the price went up so much! I paid $35 or so for them a while ago! No issues with runs for me. They lasted multiple wears, but I’m pretty careful with my stockings.

I couldn’t decide if I liked the look or not. I also felt more comfortable with them off at that point as I decided to dance shoeless.
I think it depends on where you live. I doubt I could find a pair of pantyhose for sale in my city. Maybe support hose at the SAS store. I think if you’re comfortable in hose go for it.

I was happy to wear long dresses to wedding of both kids. Never had to even consider the panty hose decision. (That worked well, since I wore dressy sandals to both events.)

The last time I bought pantyhose, they came in a plastic egg in a kiosk in the grocery story, probably less than $3.

Ah, memories…

L’eggs  I just googled them and they are still around.

I remember those! They were awesome for scrubbing bathroom sinks, tubs, etc.!

Looks like they’re over $6 now. No way I’d pay that much for a pair of hose, but if I could scrub sinks with them…

Plus they don’t come in the plastic egg anymore. I mean really! That was the big draw!

I wear hose. I love off black tights the best. Always cool, IMO.

Funnily enough, I was on a couple of flights recently and this brand was the advertisement. The new ad I saw on the plane is very funny. This ad is similar.
