The Perry Legacy Continues

<p>Holy Cross junior third baseman Matt Perry takes Patriot League Player of the Year honors. Perry becomes Holy Cross' third Player of the Year honoree, and first since 2001, after leading the Patriot League in batting average, hits and on-base percentage during the 2009 campaign. Perry's .439 batting average, 75 hits and .505 on-base percentage are all the top marks among League players, and his 111 total bases were tied for the top spot. Perry also led the way by hitting .486 in Patriot League games. </p>

<p>Matt's father Ronnie Perry. Jr. and grandfather Ronnie Perry Sr are both in the Holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame. Ronnie Perry Jr. excelled on the baseball field and basketball court, as well as in the classroom. He was named Academic All-American three times, and won an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship. In 1996, he was inducted into the GTE Academic All-American Hall of Fame. </p>

<p>Ronald S. Perry ’54, earned the coveted title of All-American 1952. He is thought to be the only athlete to be a member of national championship teams in two major sports— basketball and baseball. In 1952, he pitched the Crusaders to an NCAA World Series baseball title, and two years later he captained the basketball team in the National Invitational Tournament. He is a two-time winner of All-East honors on the court with 992 points, while maintaining a pitching record of 23-2 at the same time.</p>
