The Politics of Senior Awards

Tonight was the ceremony. I was snubbed. Multiple times.

Concerning awards:

Favoritism >>> Merit

True story.

True AF.

I can’t even with some of these. One was EXPLICITLY based on a single test score and I still didn’t get it though people with lower scores did.

Not to say you didn’t deserve it, but isn’t that kind of how life works? When people like you, then you get what you want. Getting a job is all about what connections you have, and then getting the interviewer to like you.

I’m sure that’s how life works; this is high school.

Don’t know about your school, but the majority of senior awards here are given by rich families and local clubs and organizations and stuff.

If you have a parent/ relative involved in giving that award, you KNOW you’ll get it. Almost every award recipient knew the person who gave them the award.

That being said, the valedictorian last year got only 1 out of like 50.

Because senior awards matter.

Seriously, who cares about senior awards?

…Exactly

I didn’t go to my senior award ceremony, even though that I was certainly going to win the High Honors award and maybe some others. Though, apparently my school’s administration decided to announce that they will be declaring two salutatorians this year, which caused massive backlash on them.

Ach7DD
I would use that as an excuse to bomb the school

Mine was mostly an excuse to recognize the 5 black kids who won a bunch of local minority scholarships. And they threw this thing into the middle of it that had a ton of people so they could get more than 20 students to show up.

I thought I was snubbed until the end when I won an award that I was picked over the entire senior class for.

And what award was that, Niquii? Coolest student in all of Florida?

Well, yeah. The girl that got the “best athlete” award wasn’t even a captain of the volleyball team… and we have this one girl that’s like near-Olympic level track and field. The girl that won also happens to be valedictorian.
For band awards the same person got nearly all of the awards. Granted, she’s really good, but out of like 8 or 9 awards she got about 6. And they’re subjective.

@CE Yes, that was the award! How’d you know?? squints eyes You know a lot…don’t you?
