The "Quirky" Ivy

Brown has often been considered the “quirky” ivy. What makes Brown so quirky? Is it the Naked Donut Run? The liberal atmosphere? The crazy cool people who go there?

Haven't you asked this before?

no
there's a difference between asking what's the best thing about brown and what makes it "quirky"

Says who?

That's not why I asked though. Earlier someone posted a thread asking what made Brown "quirky" and what made it stick out as unique juuuust before applications were due and drew some heavy fire from people accusing him/her of not thinking for his/herself about what to write for the Why Brown? essay. Thought it was you; guess I remembered wrong.

oh...well...if you check my posts i've applied already for early decision and i'm just obsessing more about Brown in asking this question
judging from the abundance of replies, you're probably right about someone asking this already

well id like to know wuts so quirky about brown. im interested in knowing

Maybe this will answer your question.

When I stayed overnight with a cousin's friend back in early October, I met a guy who spent 12 hours earlier that day in an art studio crafting a statue of water out of wood. He then went with a bunch of friends to a slam poetry performance. That night he and another guy talked with me about the poetry class they were enrolled in (the other guy was going to write a poem for a girl in the class to further seduce her, or something along those lines). The next day I was sitting in on a cognitive psychology course with him. He wasn't doing any of this because he had to, or because it's what his friends were doing. These were things he simply WANTED to do. And he was absolutely thrilled to be having such an opportunity.

I mention this because I don't know where else you can find students who can pursue such diverse interests without being called unfocused or jumbled, or without the curriculum of the school itself blocking such intellectual curiosity.

Does that help?

Open Curriculum.

Unless you're an engineer, you can take what you want to take. It is by far the best, and most quirky, thing about it.
