How good is this book? I've never taken the ACT, and i plan on taking it in sept....what kind of tips does this book give you? Does it inform the reader about the time constraints during the test? Ok well i would appreciate a response about this book! Thank you

I used this book and it's okay, but I think you need to be careful with the time, I found it to be tight when I took the real ACT. Also, if you're weak on science usually, but think after doing some of the practice tests in the book that it's easy, like I did, don't be fooled, do a little more work. The practice ones are easier than the real thing in that section more than the others. (At least they were when I took the ACT)

What was your score? Haha man everybody really talks about how i have to watch my TIME!

reading and science got me for time...ouch

(30's both, 36 math 34 english 33 comp)

tips:

practice, with less time than is prescribed.
review thoroughly your mistakes
be very alert on test day

yes, science is a tad harder on the real thing

I got a 33 (Reading 36, English 35, Science 31, Math 30) the first time (I've only taken it once)and all I did were the practive tests in that book.

Can you recommend any other book?

Barrons - see my explanation in the other "What other ACT book should I get?" thread.

Thanks Gexxman...do u think i will have enough time to prep...if i plan on taking the test in september? Oh and what do u guys think about SPARKNOTES???

It would be hard to give you an answer without an official diagnostic score and your goals. If you are pretty knowledgeable in the subjects that are being tested, September wouldn't hurt. Remember ACT has "Score Choice" so even if you do poorly no colleges, unless you want to, will see that score.

Grr. New York doesn't have a september test.

Yea I Love that book... i used it for ONLY A WEEK and my score jumped from 28-33... isnt that crazy?

collegebound, did you just do the tests, or did you do the introductory material as well?

i got a 26 first time then bought the book i practiced timing and got a 33. So i recommend it

floridakmm are you recommending barrons or the real act guide??

real act guide

Ok how long did you prep between those two scores?

about 2 weeks
not very long. I did all 3 science and reading sections bc i had time issues with those. i only did one english but i made a 36 on the real test. and i think i did about 2 math
