The real college rankings

Schools that party way too much = not as strong academics. and no it's not a stereotype, it's true.

^ Swimguy - That assessment basically supports the idea that this whole list is based on prestige.

And that's definitely a stereotype. Students who party too hard might get worse grades (and even that is a stretch), but that says nothing about the quality of the education offered.

Yes, and I said that I thought that it looked like the whole list was based on prestige. What was your point?

I dunno. To show xenonator that his list is bunk.

<<schools that="" party="" way="" too="" much="not" as="" strong="" academics.="" and="" no="" it's="" not="" a="" stereotype,="" true.="">></schools>

Oh, okay. UMass is terrible.

It IS bunk. Unless he was making his list with only prestige in mind. If that was his purpose, than I believe Berkeley should be even higher than say UPenn or UChicago

"Oh, okay. UMass is terrible."

Yes it is.

Yeah, UPenn is prestigious, but tell the average person on the street you go there and they'll just think you mean Penn State. And no one has really heard of UChicago, or they think you mean U of Illinois at Chicago. I guess both of those schools should just drop down to unranked.

<<yes it="" is.="">></yes>

I'll trust the college rankings over your idiotic opinion.

Princeton should be dropped lower, and berkeley should rise above it then

happy?

And you think the average person would automatically know Berkeley more? For undergrad Penn is definitely more prestigious for people who need to know, I wouldn't even want to talk to someone, let alone have any relationship with a person who didn't know Penn. I have never met an educated person, who thought "penn state."

So xenonator, if you hate Duke and want to base this on "academics."

Can you honestly claim that Brown is stronger in more fields than Duke? (On the other hand, it is an Ivy league school, right?? Thats all it matters for you??)

^ No, I think rankings based on prestige are stupid.

Also, the key word there is "educated". I live in suburban Ohio, where everyone goes to Ohio State, Kent State, or Penn State. If you say Penn, you mean Penn State.

Brown and Stanford are 2 of the most academically well rounded schools in the US, so yes.

I did not have a clue about the University of Pennsylvania until I visited this forum. But everyone at my high school knows berkeley and regard it as a prestigious place to go to college.

The fact is Bescraze, UPenn has very low name recognition. It's USNWR ranking does not guarantee prestige like you seem to believe.

Oh yeah, and I live in the midwest, much closer to Penn.

I live in FL/CT and everyone knows U penn. No one considers Berkeley nearly as good ( the kid who got into Berkeley this past year was mediocre, the kid into penn was one of the top in the grade)...

And no one in california considers Upenn as good as Berkeley. Or anyone outside the U.S... infact, they don't even KNOW UPenn

Wow, Dude, Everyone knows Berkeley. All my Harvard friends and MIT friends laud Berkeley as a fine school. UPenn isn't as famous or is widely acclaimed among these areas based on my own individual experience.

Rankings are all entirely subjective, so unless the person making the rankings is someone really like you, the rankings are bs. If you are someone who agrees with liberal media, then the rankings are probably fairly accurate for you. If you're a conservative, then you probably consider some christian schools to be the top schools around. It doesn't even have to be your political view; I'm sure there are factors which make a school the best for you. I really think rankings and prestige are bs, though.
