<p>Most folks have been there but …it’s not always the most welcoming place. That being said, my D made some use of it and I spent waaaay too much time there during app season.</p>
<p>School specific threads are great. TMDSAS threads are great. LizzyM posts are great. Interview threads are great. Uhhh…that’s all I can think of right now. The rest can be a vast wasteland of neuroses and my EC is bigger than your EC (…or whatever ;)).</p>

<p>I’ve spent <2h total on that site, and every single post I read was ridiculous (38 MCAT, 3.9 GPA, I applied to 34 schools–where will I get in?? Somewhere? I hope so!!!). I will admit though, the school-specific posts that have essay prompts have proven to be quite helpful.</p>
<p>Overall, I agree that it’s lots of neuroses and mine’s better than yours–I’ve referred to it as a breeding-ground for the Obnoxious Pre-Med, my all-time favorite kind of classmate ;)</p>
<p>Well it’s not a secret to anyone applying this cycle, but it seems like alot of people are asking questions on CC that can easily be found on SDN.</p>
<p>GREAT point rainbow. Do you ever wonder how many people know about CC from SDN, and vice versa? (if you titled this post to lure unsuspecting people in, your sense of humor is awesome)</p>
<p>I think people ask questions on CC because they want to stay away from the obnoxious psychos on SD! Why stress yourself out even more? Gotta love “that” kind of classmate, ha ha.</p>
<p>Yeah, I hang around here way more often than SDN because the atmosphere here is far more relaxes and reasonable.</p>

<p>I’d add that the MCAT discussions forum is pretty good too. The main moderator, SN2ed, seems to be much more patient with newcomers than do the moderators in the main forum. Also, for those of us too cheap to buy a prep course, SN2ed has scheduled an MCAT study guide:

<p>Sdn has some great information, but its filled with a lot of neurotic pre-meds. I didn’t join that forum for a long time because of the neurotic pre-meds.</p>
<p>I made an account for SDN around the same time as CC, but realized what a crazy nutty world it is over there and haven’t been on since. Way too much to keep up with + stress anxiety galore.</p>
<p>I never understood how SDN stressed out so much about how “neurotic” it is. There’s a lot of good information to utilize. Plus, I’m glad I got to it early on so I know what some of the best of the best applicant profiles looked like in order to realize just how hard I need to work for an acceptance.</p>
<p>Acceptd, way to go on using SDN as motivation–that seems like the most useful way to look at that thread, and I hadn’t thought of doing that. Then again, I’m practically to the point of no return (applying this cycle), so it would be hard for me to use it the way you do. </p>
<p>For whatever reason, the atmosphere of CC just seems more laid-back and helpful than at SDN. If you follow the 2010-2011 applicants thread here, you might know know what I mean. I’ve been putting together a list of schools for about…a week and a half now, and (while it’s challenging and stressful in and of itself) the advice from CC has been constructive and helpful. I also like that here I can have questions answered by people who have been through this process before and their parents, who always have an interesting perspective (in addition to knowing way more about this process than I expected). I know there are med students and residents at SDN, but it seems like they post a lot less frequently than other premeds do.</p>
<p>I don’t really like being critiqued by my peers in terms of med school–my reasoning is that they’ve never applied or had an instrumental role in another’s application (like a parent does), so it’s likely that their information about med schools and admissions is way more heresay than experience. I prefer experience, and it seems like I find that better here. </p>
<p>To some of the above posters, I think it’s awesome you call “them” neurotic premeds (and likely do not include yourself in that group–I know I don’t ) because I know my friends and I do that too (Obnoxious/Neurotic are basically interchangeable), and it’s amusing that “they” exist at all schools! Haha.</p>
