The Road - Cormac McCarthy

Anyone read the book or seen the movie? I read the book just a week ago and then rushed to see the movie last Thursday before it left the one theater in the whole area that was playing it. Both are amazing and capture some aspects that the other does not. Truly an emotional, powerful experience with this story. I say the movie and Viggo Mortensen deserve Oscars.

Awesome, AWESOME book. Probably my favorite book ever (at least one of them).

I will not see the movie. There was a REASON that McCarthy didn’t adequately describe the main characters- they were meant to be blank faces that you could impose the image of your own father and brother on, etc. To put a face on the characters would make it distant and lose a lot of the emotional edge IMO.

My friend was telling me to read it. We have a lot of book arguments, mostly Hemingway vs. Tolstoy, so even though we always recommend good things to each other and we know the other has good taste, we never go for it. I’ll probably not read it, but if he likes it, I bet it’s a great book.

^ Read it. Seriously. It’s an easy-ish read and it is emotional.

^ No.

10char

^ Yes.

That book suuuuuuuuuucked. It was my Choice-book for Summer reading entering Sophomore year. I think if I read it after I have kids, though, I would enjoy it immensely more.

Apologies in advance for not contributing to any form of discussion, but I just had to add…

Cormac McCarthy Rocks!!!

The Road was one of my required summer reading novels for AP English this year. Out of the three books we had to read, The Road was by far my favorite. It wasn’t without its dull moments, but it was definitely one of those books that causes you to reevaluate your perspective on everything in life.

McCarthy’s style of writing was so fresh and inspiring. Unlike anything I’ve read before. Some parts were lyrical in a sense, truly amazing…
