The Schedule-Making.. is it too much?

Hello,

I am currently a 10th grader (in Mexico), and I have been asked to decide what to take for Junior year.

My school provides the Full IB Diploma Programme and Honors classes for Math courses (Algebra II, Geometry, Precalc) and several Advanced Placement AP Courses (Art History, Spanish Lang, Spanish Lit, French Lang, English Lang, Eng Lit, Chem, Bio, Physics B, Calc AB/BC, US History)

Well, I am currently in this MEXICAN/ US University Diploma Program, which will consequently let me apply to Mexican and US Universities after HS Graduation.

I have courses which I HAVE to take in order to be given credit for the MX/US Program.

My plan is to study Biology or Premed for Undergrad, and Med school for Grad in the US. (Dream school: Stanford U, UCLA, JHU, Harvard U)

The main point is that I am currently making my schedule and this is my plan for both Junior and Senior year:

Junior year: 2009-2010

AP English Language (or English III)
Honors Precalculus (or IB Math SL/HL - 2-yr course)
AP Chemistry (or Anatomy/Physiology
AP US History (or US History)
Mexican History II (Spanish spoken;MUST-TAKE Course)
Literature I-II (1-yr course; in spanish;must-take for MX Program)
Fine Arts Units: Ceramics II, Classical Guitar 1 (Alternative: Multimedia Design)
Physics

Senior year: 2010-2011

AP EnglishLit
AP Calculus AB or BC (depending Jr year performance)
AP Physics B
US Government (1-semester)/ Derecho - Law (in English): (Spanish spoken course, must-take for MX Program)
IB Philosophy (or Philosophy)
AP Spanish Lit (normally Literature III/IV ;what if I take IB Spanish A1 or A2 HL instead of Literature I/II/III/IV?)
AP Art History (or other Fine Art electives)
IB Psychology SL

Add: I'm also going to work in a hospital (as a student under a doctor for Community and Service: completely voluntary, over the next 2 years, whenever possible)
Add2: I have applied to Science Summer programs for this summer :D I hope I can get accepted.
Add3: I'm not very keen of essays, but I think that working my gluteus maximus will definitely be worth the time, maybe not. This is why I am asking you, experienced people.
Add4: I am taking AP Bio and AP Spanish Lang this year (May 2009). Wish me luck. AP Bio seems moderate-difficult. AP Spanish Lang should be easy for me as I am "like" a native speaker (Korean, living in Mexico, born in Mexico)
Add5: CURRENT CUMULATIVE GPA - 92.86 out of 100 or 3.7144 of 4.0 (Freshmen+Sophomore year)

Is it too many IB/AP combination for each year? It is probable. Please respect other's opinions and comment on this. Any questions, email me or PM me or post a reply asking. Thank you.

Note: The sooner, the better.
Note 2: Why this is so long? So you can know better my situation and assess it even better! :D

D.M.S.

Sounds great

Any other comments?

Here’s what I would’ve done, but this is just me (and I would’ve taken as many ECs as I could’ve):

JR:

AP English Language
AP Chemistry
AP US History
AP Art History
AP Physics B
Honors PreCalculus
Mexican History II
Spanish Literature I-II

SR:

AP English Literature
AP Biology
AP Calculus BC
AP Spanish Lit
IB Philosophy
IB Psychology SL
US Government/Law

If you find taking AP Physics B in Junior year too much, you can always make it Regular Physics and add an AP Physics B to your senior year load. Just remember to try and take the hardest courseload possible. AP Art History can be switched over to senior year as well, if need be, however having five APs in your junior year nets you AP Scholar with Distinction in time for your college applications.

Doesn’t look like too many to me. It’s a rigorous schedule but it sounds like you have the work ethic.

AP English Language
Honors Precalculus
AP Chemistry
AP US History
Mexican History II
Spanish Literature I/II
AP Art History
Physics

AP English Literature
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics B
US Government/Law
AP Spanish Literature
IB Philosophy SL
IB Psychology SL
Arts: (Multimedia Design, Ceramics 2, Classical Guitar 1-2, Art 1… etcetera)

This may be my definite schedule, may be not. By the way @rewind123: I am taking AP Biology at the moment, and I may find AP Physics too hard without having taken Physics class.

I would probably be reaching AP Scholar with Distinction (if I get fairly good grades on the examinations) even with only 3 APs in Junior year, because this year I am taking AP Bio and AP Spanish Language.

Looks good to me. You’re absolutely fine.

I hope you are correct. I will do my best. Thank you.
