So what does everyone think of "the shirt" this year??? I had a feeling it would be gold, but I'm not sure about the antique gold color... From what I hear, the students like the front, but kind of think the back is a little silly. In any event, I'm sure they will all be wearing it come fall! Go Irish!!!

It is so much better than the shirt about 4 years ago that was yellow. They were so awful that I have 6 of them because the bookstore sold them at the end of the year for $2 a piece. They are comfy so I wear them at home, and to random Mountaineer football games since they match the WVU colors pretty closely.

Overall, I like it. I think blue is the best color for the shirt, but it really doesn’t matter as long as there is uniformity. I have a picture on my desktop from the year I mentioned earlier and the student section looks pathetic…specks of green (especially in the senior section). The student section should be one solid color! As long as the students will wear them, then I am happy.

i really like the shirt this year. i have heard that everyone usually complains about the shirt every year, but end up wearing it, but I really like this shirt.

both sayings (Rise and Strike; Defend our Honor) are inspiring, especially for the football team, and are obvious transition for the football team. last year the shirt seemed great too. last year was the rebuilding year (wake up the echoes), and this year is a breakout year (rise and strike).

i can’t wait to experience my first game next year.

The biggest criticism that I have heard on campus is that they faded gold color isn’t really going to ‘pop’ in the student section like we have come to expect in past years. But who knows…I mean they are probably right to a degree it is not going to give the same affect as mustard yellow, but still, when you have a whole student body wearing the same thing it is kinda hard to miss.

I was on the committee this year that designed the Shirt. The reason we chose gold was to commemorate The Shirt’s 20th Anniversary. We wanted to do something special and unique that hasn’t been done before. We wrestled back and forth between kelley green and gold before settling back on the color. Rise and Strike is from “Hike Notre Dame” and we chose this because of its call to ferocity and action. The back is my favorite part, a picture from the Snow Bowl. It really emobides Rise and Strike and Defend our Honor. Overall I’m very happy with the final result. Gold represents so much of the univeristy and it’s the first thing visitors see when they drive up Notre Dame Avenue. We had a crack team working on the project.

As always.

Support the Irish! Wear the Shirt!
