The tale of two Safeties

Hey Guys

My friend told me about this site and I've been reading it for a few hours and it seems pretty informative.

Well I'm a high school senior that basically applied to reach schools. 5 universities in total 3 reaches 2 safeties. was rejected by all my reaches (USC, UCLA, and NYU) and got into my two safeties(Concordia and University of Bridgeport) My High school transcript is pretty good in my opinion, could be better, tons of leadership activities and APs. Anyway I am now left with 2 schools i wished i would have not applied to. They both really suck, i get what people mean now when they say apply to safeties you like. Anyway neither college offers a major in film production, which also is a let down. I wish I would have guessed how competitive college admissions were, or at least been counseled right on the matter.

Anyway I'm leaning towards Concordia just because its in California and staying in California gives me priority in UCs , I want to transfer to UCLA, because I think it will be a smoother transfer than USC or NYU only because their film program starts junior year. Anyone have any tips on how to transfer, what classes to take, and how to make myself competitive again through Concordia. I wanted to stay all four years at one university, but I know Concordia will not challenge me enough and for that reason I wish to transfer in two years to UCLA film school.

What will make my application stand out for UCLA film? What should I be doing my 2 years before transferring? Should I contact UCLA about my intent to transfer, or just tell Concordia? I will also apply to other schools, but UCLA has taken my heart as my favorite now, but I know now not to put all my eggs in one basket so to speak. Also will my grades and leadership activities in high school be completely useless, or can I still list them on my application?

Anyway thanks for reading and if you can be of any help, please don't hesitate to respond!

If you want to go to UCLA, then the CCC route is a better bet, since those students get priority in the admissions process. However, realize that UCLA's film school is very selective, and may be harder to get into as a transfer than a freshman. In regards to your other questions:

No, you don't need to tell your attending school that you're going to transfer out. You will, however, probably need to get an approval form from the deal when you apply.

If you apply for sophomore standing, HS stats and ECs matter more than for junior standing, where some schools (such as USC), will focus solely on your college career.

You should post this in the UC sub-forum; they'll be much more knowledgable than myself. But good luck, work hard, and don't give up hope.

Best of luck :)
