You don't get it... there was a very specific context and very specific time period that those verses were revealed in. They are not meant for present-day Muslims to follow, and there are many verses that say the opposite. It might seem like it encourages violence or a contradiction to those who don't understand the context behind it, or the time it was revealed, or the reasoning behind two seemingly contradictory verses.

I don't get why, many of the verses that encourage violence are still used today. Allahu Akubar anyone?

Hey the OP said he/she is researching major religions, aka major beliefs, so why not give Atheism a look?

I was born Catholic, then turned hardcore atheist, then, a miracle happened and I'm now Christian.

How is atheism a belief when there is nothing in which to believe?

Atheism is the lack of religious belief; therefore, it does not fall under the category of a major religion/belief.

Also, since the OP was posting his/her questions on religions, and atheism doesn't really draw too many queries (...and isn't a religion), it would make sense not to include it.

Hey I just think it's as worth looking into as the other religions. Maybe some don't consider it a belief. Doesn't really matter I suppose.

you believe that there is not god... whats so hard to comprehend about that?

i wanna hear some scientologists weigh in

Great idea! Let's discuss atheism! Uh..There is no God. There is no heaven or hell. Everything in which we know is materialistic and tangible. Atheism.

c'mon ppl... you gotta be more open. Atheism is a belief, and you could consider it a religion, just one that views a world lacking supreme being(s). There probably are many different views of atheists just like there are many different views on other religions.

Haha I simply meant that the OP should consider Atheism as a viable possiblity.

I would discuss by pointing out various flaws, contradictions, and faulty logic that plague other religions, therefore making me doubt their validity, and the scientific basis which has proven more reliable than "praying" but it's been a long day, and there's always the "How Many Of You Believe There Is A God" thread for that.

I do not wish to turn this thread into a discussion about Atheism, but simply wanted to say that the OP should consider it as an option. Back to theist discussion please.

Atheism is no more than the absence of theistic belief.

...It really is not that difficult to understand.

Well duh, the prefix a means without, the means God. Easy as pi.

Easy as 3.14159?

That's figurative speech man!

Gumball and W1cked are the same person! I swear it! Ignore this idiot and lets continue the harmony this thread initially had before this scum came along.

Please, atheists, refrain from posting here! You already have your own thread, have fun there and leave us theists alone. This thread was intended to know about each other's religion, not to start a debate or flame war.

Jesminder, can you name me some gods in Buddhism? Thanks :)

I would also like to thank everyone for answering so eloquently while at the same time not taking posts by W1cked (aka Gumball) seriously.

1.) What are your view on Jesus? Do you believe he is a Messiah?
2.) Why dont Jews eat pork?
3.) If Jews are the chosen people, what is the fate of non-Jews?
4.) Tell me more about the Jewish view regarding the Day of Judgement.

No. People who believe that Jesus is the Messiah have their own religion. It's called Christianity. Jews-for-Jesus are Christians, whether they like it or not.

'Cause the Bible (Old Testament) says not to. Trufax.

Most rabbis say that the righteous of all nations have a share in the Olam Ha-Ba (heaven, or whatever you want to call it.)

1) If I'm not mistaken, I'm not really hinduist but I have had a certain degree of contact with it, they are monotheistic but their god is just represented in many ways for the human mind to comprehend. They also have a array of deities, I guess those would be the catholic equivalent of siants and angels. I might be wrong, but as far as I understand thats more or less the way it is.

So much hatred from our enlightened atheists. Is that part of the creed or is this just a skewered representation of the faith?

I'm an atheist, but I don't hate.
