as well as having to restructure my daily routine when I start college next month.

The past several nights when I am trying to fall asleep, I have been trying to pin point why I am suddenly starting to feel nervous about college when I am usually excited about it and I think that is the reason why.

I keep having this image in my head that my days in college as a freshman are going to consist of just:

waking up
eating
going to class
lunch
another class
go to dorm
dinner
study
shower
bed

back to step 1 and repeat for the whole year. Much like high school, except I will have periods of extended freetime where I can't even imagine what I am going to(or I can) before I begin to feel bored.

Does anyone else who is starting this fall feel the same way?
How do you all who are already in college manage?

I do, but the idea of starting all over from scratch intimidates me. I made some friends at orientation, but I dont know how close we will be once school starts

I’m the opposite, I always wish days were longer. I’m involved in a lot of extracurricular activities and have a pretty active social life, so it always seem like I’m missing some free time. Sadly, it’s often sleep that gets cut off.

Well I hope my first year is like yours minus the lack of sleep :p

You could get a job. Also, since you’ll be staying on campus, you’ll make a few friends to hang out with. Trust me, you’ll have plenty t do. Especially at friday nights when they all free free. Late night trip to walmart or w.e.

It’s not that i’m taking hard classes, it’s the fact that I know i’m going to have way more freetime than i’m use to having and won’t know what to do with it.

^^ What you mean, “won’t know what to do with it?”

Take a look at what people do with their free time. They spend it engaging in their favorite hobbies and pastimes. They spend it interacting with friends. They spend it doing a wide variety of things, things that may be constructive or detrimental.

What you need to do is introspect. And get an idea of things you like to do. Do those things! Or you could study and go beyond the things you’re being taught in class.

you mentioned you were going to be a freshman, yes?

i think you have the concept of college a bit off. trust me, you will BARELY have free time!

there are clubs you will want to join, games you’ll want to go to, shows you want to see, friends doing random **** down the hall that you’ll want to join in on, on campus job, studying and homework (which is not easy), on-campus activities happening, parties!

i have NO IDEA where you think all this “free time” is going to come from. of course you’re going to want time to yourself every so often but in my experience i didn’t see that as free time, i saw it as “let me catch up on the crap i couldn’t do yesterday because i was doing something else” time or of course as Canadian EE said, “sleep” time.

Free time. WHAT FREE TIME!!! This summer I am working 6 days a week, full-time. I have far more free time than in college…this summer I’ve been watching loads of TV, doing all my crafty things, learniing how to cook, watching movies at the local theater, reading a ridiculous amount etc. During college, I go to class (5 hours monday through thursday, 1 hour friday), work (15 hours/week), and that’s pretty much it and I have 0 “free” time and barely sleep. I am constantly hanging out with friends, doing homework, going to sporting events, participating in clubs, seeing advisors, attending fairs, concerts, parties etc. I don’t really have any time to just sit, be lazy, BS and watch hours of TV and read for fun. Don’t worry too much about the friends aspect. Everyone will be in the same position as you when you are in college. Hang out with people, make an effort to be friendly (don’t just hang with the few people you do know, put yourself out there and introduce yourself to people who live around you). Trust me, your free time will go out the window if you keep yourself active enough.

starting over from scratch is the most exciting part. you will find ways to use your free time and there will be tons of opportunities to do things that weren’t offered before. also, getting to know new people will give you plenty to do.
