The track team

I am interested in joining Track, I am generally a good runner, played basketball for about 6 years. None of my friends (Nerds) are joining, or even considering trying out......sigh. Should I go for it?

go for it...try out and find out if its something you want to do...if not than stop doing it

What do you have to lose?

Sports is the best way to find friends. When you go through a four mile tempo together, it makes you friends automatically.

^Really? sweet.

i also feel teh same way but I'm a senior so most people who have joined are already familiar with rack...i don't even understand what track is...people talk about the 400 and squares and I'm clueless.

Can someone help me out? What if i'm really bad...? =/ How much should i practice to get ready?

yea i completely agree with mr_chipset. track is great, think about joining cross-country too. everyone just seems to be really good friends with each other in sports teams.

Track is so great, track kids are fantastic, the way you feel after almost killing yourself in a workout is amazing, the meets are crazy and great fun. Join now.

Oh come on now. I mean, you should totally do track, but you just posted a thread about this. Do you really need another one?

Anyway, my answer is, as it was in that other thread, yes. Do track. You'll make other friends. I went and hung out with like 12 track peeps today at a Chinese restaurant, then we all went for ice cream. Like five of us are going to see Juno on Monday. We're awesome.

Think about it, you can puke after a workout! Isn't this a good reason to join track?

PS. For me it'd be enough by itself.

it's not a workout until you puke, man.

Where we practice, we consider puking a part of workout, man. Then you puke afterwards. I love the sport.

^lol, During cross-country meets, the grass around the chute thing is covered because of everyone that puked. I have never seen this at a track meet though. We usually don't puke, but everyone usually just falls to the ground and lays there for a minute or two right after practice.

Where we practice, we consider laying for a minute or two a part of workout too. In fact, most of our team is so hardcore we often do this type of workout for 7-8 hours a day even during sleep. Our team is hardcore.

LOL at mr_chipset above me. I've been on cross country and track all throughout high school and all I can say is it's tough. It's one of the few sports where you can actually say "you get what you put into it." BTW, I've never puked from running before; whether it be from a race or a really intense workout....NOT ONCE. :)

SDMS12, have you thought about what event you might like to try? are you fast? do you have a 30+ inch vertical?

someguy, you have never had a REAL cross-country practice until you have either puked/collapsed/couldn't breathe or any combination of those lol jk. but yea i really do agree with the you get what you put into it. if you have the determination to run miles upon miles every week, you can be really great.
