I'm a Junior in high school right now, and I'm in a bit of a dilema right now. I've been running Outdoor Track since I was a freshman, but I absolutely HATE everything about it. The people are really annoying, and I just dislike the sport. I run cross country as well, which I do actually enjoy. Would it look bad on my college app if I don't do it this year and take up something else? I'm considering volunteering at a soup kitchen every Wednesday. I participate in the following:

Cross Country- all years
Indoor Track- Freshman+Sophomore
Outdoor Track- (I'm not sure about it this year)
Mock Trial- Junior years (will be doing it next year as well)

No, it’s better for you to concentrate on what you actually enjoy doing.

If you keep up cross country, it shows you’re dedicated to the sport. Being in indoor and outdoor for a couple years each shows that you tried out similar sports, but didn’t like them as much as cross country. Nothing wrong with that.

Also, being in mock trial and volunteering will take up the time, so it’s not like you’re slacking on activities.

Regardless of college, though, don’t do outdoor track if you don’t like it.

Thanks, I appreciate the answers. Would anyone else please add some input as well?

Think of it this way… it protects your body to not be over using it, especially if you aren’t enjoying it, it’s not worth it. Yes, commitment is good, but you show enough commitment with your other activities. If you care about what colleges think… they want you to do what you want to do, not something just to impress them.
