Hi guys! I have a question for getting an admission (major Asian studies)

I’m planning to transfer from CCC to UCLA.
I will apply to Asian studies major.I graduated high school in Korea. Also I took japanese classes for two years in high school. However, I did not take any Asian language classes in the college. When I checked UCLA website, Applicants must complete a minimum of one year (two semesters/three quarters) of college-level courses in one of these languages to be considered for admission. It means that I cannot be considered as Asian studies major for admission?

Hi, i am a Junior from San Diego, CA. I am deciding on either UCLA or UC Berkeley (or UC San Diego, UC Davis) after community college. I have learning disabilities, but I know that to get into these competitive colleges, I will have to work hard. So, what do the junior admission officers look at?

AP Classes?

Extracurriculars from High School?

Achievements from Community College?

And is it REALLY true that you must attend an Honors program at a community college to be accepted into UCLA?

And, MY BIGGEST QUESTION is, if you are rejected from UCLA, can you apply more than once? Or is it once in a lifetime shot.

I don’t know what I am going to major in. Maybe Aerospace Engineering. I am currently in Pre-Calc Honors and Physics Honors. Or Acting. I have NO IDEA what I want to be. I look it up but I cant make my mind. Is there anything I can do to prepare myself for the rigors of UCLA.

And don’t say anything like: YOU WONT BE GUARANTEED A SPOT. I KNOW THAT it is competitive 1000 PERCENT!!!

Most of the UCs(With the exception of UC Berkeley) don’t care all that much about extracurriculars. They’re just focused on your GPA and the completion of classes for your major by fall. Still, they’ll look good on your application, so please don’t misconstrue this as a message saying that you shouldn’t do ECs.

You don’t have to be in an honors program to be admitted into UCLA. It will help, though. You can apply to UCLA more than once. Many people have been admitted after being rejected once before.

Just a word of advice: you’ll want to maintain a GPA above 3.6 in community college to be competitive for admission into UCLA as a junior.

For my major UCLA has five prerequisite courses listed, the student must complete at least four. My school does not offer one of them, so I have taken the other four and achieved a 4.0 in those courses. However, one of the four is not articulated on Assist.org as being an equal, transferable course between my CCC and UCLA. So technically, I’ve only taken three prereqs to the UCLA standard but I have the fourth course on my transcript. Will I be automatically put out of consideration for this?

Schools are aware than due to budget cuts not all schools offer all the classes. However was there nearby community colleges that offered that class. If that is the case, why don’t u take the class at another cc?

If there is no nearby cc that offers the class then you should have mentioned it in your application.

Hey guys, I’m a little confused about a possible loophole I found to help my transfer ability to UCLA. This is based off of what I’ve found at assist.com

The “English” major and “American Lit. & Cultures” are identical in transfer needs from CC. But if you look at the profile of admitted transfer students by major, English avg. is 3.7, while AL&C is 3.4. Also, the admin rate is 66% for AL&C, to 34% in English. Obviously I should just change my major at CC from English to AL&C, right? Am I reading this right?

I have no problem majoring in either, but English is really impacted and tough, so what am I missing here?

Hey, I have a rather minor question. I was accepted as a Political Science transfer to UCLA for the fall with all my requirements completed by the end of this spring. (~61 semester units?) On my application I put no attending school for this summer.

However, now I kind of want to take a 5 unit Chinese language class over the summer at my community college. If I desired to continue the language through the UC while taking upper division courses, would I have to fill out the “report changes” to my application form? Is it too late being in May or would it push me over some limit? If that’s not possible, can I just take the introduction class for fun being unreported and let it not count towards my units? Sorry if I’m a bit paranoid. Thanks.

Hi,
I am a rising sophomore attending a private university out of state. I would really like to transfer to a UC for various reasons, and UCLA is one of them. Should I transfer to a CC for my sophomore year and then transfer to a UC? I know it’s going to be extremely difficult to transfer from a private out of state university to a UC. Thanks
