The UCLA Transfer FAQ

UCLAri:

I have a medical condition that requires me my own room (baaad migraines). I included this information when I submitted my housing app. today. Thus, I requested either a university owned apartment with my own room (or studio), a residence hall with my own room, or a residence plaza with my own room. Any light you could shed on the particular experiences of living in each?

Also, are dorms/apartments/suites single-sex living arrangements or can they be co-ed?

heh,

You can do this whenever you want once they’re in URSA, but it’s usually easiest to do it at one of the orientations.

Sopheee,

Dorms are just, well… dorms, and I somehow doubt that they’ll give you one to yourself (only RAs get that).

Plazas are dorms with connecting bathrooms like in some hotel rooms.

Suites are like apartments without kitchens. You may have a chance of getting one of those.

Apartments are fully-fledged apartments, and you may have a chance of one.

When do they appear in URSA? Once they receive transcripts?

EDIT: And thanks for the help - I’m sure a lot of us appreciate it quite a lot :)

Good god the plazas dont have AC? Looks like plaza for me then. Now recommend a plaza so I can apply!

heh,

Yes, followed by a delay of a some time for them to train the necessary monkeys to input the data.

cubman,

Plazas have AC. Only the suites do not.

If you want no A/C, try for Saxon or Hitch. I lived in Saxon, so some of my awesome might rub off on you. ;)

hahaha Im sorry I meant good god no suites for me. I cant imagine that LA heat with no AC. So which plaza for real now :)

Actually, LA isn’t so bad during the times you’re on-campus (spring, winter, and fall.) Only the first week of fall is a bit miserable.

As for the suites, I lived in Delta Terrace, which is okay. It’s really quiet if you want that, but it’s also kind of annoyingly laid out, IMO.

thanks UCLAri!

I was thinking suite still because I cant stand sharing a bathroom…I dont think? So the plazas and suites dont have kitchens right? So where will i put my george foreman!

I’m worried I’ll gain weight if I eat on campus meals haha!

cubman,

Sharing a bathroom is a skill you will need to learn so that you can effectively live with your future significant other. Trust me, it’s a good skill to have.

As for your George Foreman… I don’t know. On top of the microwave? It might set off the fire alarm, though…

Sopheee,

Do not take that worry lightly. I weighed over 180 lbs in undergrad. I currently weigh in the low 160s. It’s a real problem.

haha ill make i work. And ya i suppose I will need to learn that sooner or later. Thank you for all your help by the way. I think it might be plaza time for me

whooooooa. scary man.

So, I have some friends already at UCLA and already have a bit of a social network. They want me to share a room with them in Hitch next year. Should I opt for this? Can I do it through them as continuing students without waiting for the Transfer deadline? Also, how social is it? I plan to rush a frat and play club sports, but I still want to be able to meet a few people, especially girls, is it that from away from everything?

transfermeup, first of all stick with one thread. I’m tired of playing follow-the-leader. -_- Secondly, of course they will block out my name; it’s J-E-N-i-T-A-L-S. :]

UCLAri, for studying abroad programs, do the oversea universities normally accept all or most applicants?

Oh and Sophee, I eat dorm food all the time… you can eat healthy if you want but its very easy to just eat pizza and bad stuff all the time because its unlimited with every swipe!

Rushdelts,

Hitch is fine.

jennnn,

If you go through EAP you will almost certainly go to your first choice of school abroad.

Rushdelts,

It’s the ease of food, plus the stress, plus the crazy hours that make people gain weight.

I’ve been accepted as a Pre Bus-Econ Major. I have already have 2 Ws and this semester last week I’ve just dropped another course (Business - Investments). I will be having another W. This course is not transferable, not part of IGETC, and is not on ASSIST.org.

According to UCLA’s provisional agreement I must contact them Tuesday Afternoon about this. I’m a bit worried right now, but do you think they’ll rescind the offer?

Thanks…

fortune_legacy,

I sincerely doubt it, especially if the course wasn’t part of the IGETC or transferable.
