is school tripling freshman and or upper class men in the dorms

This is awesome jusy saying :)and:
Finding out what new changes would be happening in the next few yrs

I am using this!!!

And a general note, ask for %'s, not #'s. A 11:1 student-faculty ratio is great, but what percentage of freshman classes have greater than, say, 30 students? As well as things like “What % of freshman end up in forced triples?”

Also, for dining, ask about hours. As in, “Where can my son/daughter/I eat after dining hours?” & ask about other options - at one visit, we found out there are little kiosks around the school that you can order snacks from until like 3AM. Not fancy, but nice to know.

It’s also good to ask questions just to clarify. When we got into a tour of the nursing facilities, my mom asked questions that had already been addressed on our information booklet, and we did learn a little more. But above all, it makes you look interested.

The initial post has it all down, though.

Other things you can look for (if they matter to you) are % of students involved in frats, size of school (large, medium, small LAC), and location (urban/rural/suburban), sports, research opportunities, are there TAs or just professors teaching undergrads.

The checklist is fine as a starting point of things to consider, but I’d suggest that you spend time just looking around and trying to get the overall vibe of the college and see if you can picture yourself there. Over the years college hunting with my 2 kids, I’ve seen one or two families on tours so busy checking items off a list that they seemed to miss the overall picture/environment/vibe (whatever you want to call it) that the school presents.

Hadn’t noticed they didn’t say Urban/Rural/Suburban…

That’s a HUGE part of my list, but I just got this list in the mail today, thought it was pretty good, thanks for adding to it!

I always wonder about that question “what % of classes have more than 50 people?” I think that people hear “50%” and they think that it means that half their classes would be small. In fact, if you got 2 classes, one with 20 people and one with 180 people, then 90% of people would be taking the large class. If that’s how things divide up, then you can expect that 90% of your classes will be large too.

Keep in mind that no school is perfect. Prioritize what is important to YOU (be it location, size of school, a specific major etc.) and focus on those things.

You forgot # of hot sloots and availability of grass
