The Ultimate Decision

Hey,

So being only a first semester freshmen student at a small school in Virginia, I am having a really hard time adapting to the campus life. I went in knowing that I loved the place given the fact that I had visited 3+ times however as I started school I thought I loved it until I settled in. I am having such a difficult time to the point where I decided to go home one weekend because I needed time away from campus which was a 4 hour drive back home. Although it has been difficult I knew there wasn't anything right.

Months when the college applications and decisions were happening my heart was settled on West Virginia University. I did get in with a GPA of 2.9 and three score SAT of 1350. Now as it seems low, I did get in, yet I turned it down because I knew this small VA state school would be comfortable and more affordable. In all I am regretting it so much and have discussed with my parents on what to do.

Their options were to go back home to a community college for my spring semester or go to WVU and make it work. Now I know there is someone out there who has been in this same predicament but if by all means can I get a few words of advice to help me figure this out.

I know that if I stay home for a semester and go to a community college I would get a job and end up going to WVU in the fall of 2015 or I can immediately try to transfer to WVU from my school now.

Thank you guys so much for reading my concern!

Immediately try to transfer to WVU. I’m not defeating community college but I do not advise going to a community college from a 4 year school unless your academics forced you to do so.

If you are 100% certain WVU is the school for you, apply for spring transfer. If it might be the school for you but there are other schools you might want to transfer to, too - then either stick it out a year at current school and apply for Fall 2015 transfer - or go to CC in Spring and explore other options. It sounds like you really want WVU, so I’d say go for it. Do they take spring transfers for Freshmen? Some schools do, some don’t. If you’re certain, I would also contact the admissions person you dealt with first time around and simply say “I made a mistake.” Good luck - and let us know what you decide to do.
