The Ultimate High School Tips Thread

Rather than a lot of really small threads that have nuggets of knowledge here and there, I figured each viewer of this thread could post one or two tips that could lead to an amazing go-to resource.
(sorry if this has been done before ^^)

I guess I’ll start xD

  1. Don’t be afraid to reach out and find opportunities for yourself. After going through threads here, I always wonder how people did the things that they did. But all it takes is initiative and some guts.
  1. Get off CC and do your homework! Yes, you.
  1. Drop out of high school and join a tech start-up. It'll work out, I promise.
  1. watch anime. it will inspire you.

(This thread is already going downhill lol)

  1. **Research** and try to get committed to a major/career as well as take classes related to that, the earlier the better - trust me. I'm laughing at my friends now who are going to choose a major soon or have to go to undeclared and deal with the impaction.

EDIT: If any of you are interested in Applied Mathematics/Statistics, hit me up.

  1. Have fun, make high school some of the best year of your life, don't miss out on social opportunities!
  1. **"JUST. DO IT!!!!"** -Shia LaBeouf
  1. Get standardized testing over with as early as possible. You'll thank yourself later.
  1. Be confident in your own abilities; while you should listen to your teachers' advice use it as a guideline only. In the real world, you'll have to make your own choices.
  1. Learn how to manage time early on
  1. Don't slack freshman year, no matter how much you think you can get by!
  1. Make sure you are on track to graduate on time! Triple check to make sure you have taken (or will take) all required classes at your school.
  2. Don't procrastinate. You always end up hating yourself later.
  1. Don't be afraid to have fun every once in a while
  1. Try new things. It won't hurt.

I have a really long high school advice post [url=<a href=“http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1661936-if-you-could-redo-anything-in-your-high-school-career-what-would-it-be.html%5Dhere%5B/url”>http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1661936-if-you-could-redo-anything-in-your-high-school-career-what-would-it-be.html]here[/url]. For this thread, I’ll address what I think is a common misconception:

  1. College applications will not ask how many volunteer hours you have (though some scholarship applications might, and they might be required to graduate from your high school). Your ECs can involve community service, but they don't have to.
  1. Don't fret if you receive a B.
  1. Try your best. While do not get depressed if you receive an B or lower, you shouldn’t be just aiming for those grades I did horrible freshman year and aimed for B’s my sophomore year but I should have aimed for A’s. It makes you more competitive. Nobody is going to actually listen to these tips (I didn’t listen to any freshman year either) but remember that you were warned.

Don’t watch netflix on school days.

  1. Sleep as much as you can.
