dukesoph3: what I meant by connections is simply knowing a member of the faculty, alumni, having a parent or someone that is close to Wake. Since you mentioned that this is her dream school, tell her that she needs to get this across. In the application, if it's true, have her write that she would attend Wake, no if ands or buts, if accepted. At Wake they really value a lot if a candidate is highly likely to attend and show a love and interest for the school.

takeheart: Even though I am but a lowly freshman, I can't say I have known any gay guys or girls here at Wake. Doing a simple facebook search for this, no results show up. If you really like Wake and want to attend, by all means go ahead and apply. The people here won't harass you or beat you up or anything like that. I'm not sure how open you are, though, and as such I can't be sure that you won't be outed or whatnot, though I highly doubt it. Also, I think at Wake there is some club like GSA that has some members.

Christay: I have no idea :-). I would assume that they are pretty high since the early admissions programs are pretty much binding. So only apply if you KNOW you are going to attend and love the next four years of your life at Wake.

courtreb2005: Good question. I know a girl here that got a full ride (really full) and I suppose she had a pretty high SAT score and a high GPA since she's pretty smart. You could check out the financial aid part of the Wake site and get a better idea. There are a lot of different scholarship programs here at Wake that value need, leadership, community involvement, merit, etc.

dtown: I do agree that there isn't much "diversity" here at Wake. I've only seen two people so far with non-black/brown/blonde hair or different clothing styles. I guess it all depends on the person. I would definitely suggest that you come and visit and see if the people here mesh well with what you want in a student body.
