hey am i deciding between holy cross, skidmore, villanova, and wake forest

can anyone tell me why i should choose wake forest over the other two. i am visiting wake forest next week. is it true that it is extremley hard to do well because professors deflate students grades at wake? Thank you all for your help.

i am actually really surprised that i got into wake... it think my minority status helped alot.

activities varsity track, schools leadership team, treasurer of club that helps elderly people, nhs, went on choral pilgrimage to italy with school, tae kwon do, volunteer at library

okay, so its true. The average GPA is a 2.7. I go to Wake, and this is what we all say. However, my GPA is above that - and alot of people I know have high GPAs. 3.0 is dean's list - getting above this is very achievable if you take the right steps.
- Firstly there are easy and hard classes at Wake, like with every school. Talk with ppl on campus, they'll tell you who to take!
- The language requirement I think is what hurts some GPAs. If you are really good in a language ( I see you took AP Spanish), this might not be a problem. I'd look into this with the language dept.
- Lastly, there are so many assistance services at Wake that are free. The learning services offers Free private tutors for all classes, writing assistance, and academic counseling. Every professor I have had here has offerend office hours help!

I think the Work Forest thing shouldn't wean people off. The most stressed people I know are either business or premed. Also, I know one or two people that went to really bad high schools. I think though, if this was the case for you, any of the colleges on your list would be hard.
This is my personal opinion though. I love love love Wake (which is why I come back to college confidential at this time of the year! haha). I was worried like you about the whole grade deflation thing. Its not too bad.
oh, and on a sidenote --- compared to the FREEEEEEZING whether at Skidmore in the Winter --- Wake is quite nice :)

The average GPA at Wake Forest is NOT 2.7.

The average GPA is currently a 3.1.

The most recent data I've seen is from spring 2007, but the average GPA was 3.10 at that time (it was 3.11 in fall 2006--so that is not a one time anomaly either). Some disciplines are harder than others, to be sure, but most students graduate from Wake Forest with over a 3.0 GPA.

If you want to see the source, go to the WFU home page and type in "Greek Scholarship Report 2007" in the search engine. The first article listed is the fall 2006 report, and the third article listed is the spring 2007 report. The report shows greek, non-greek GPAs and combined GPAs.

Wake is extremely difficult academically. A good GPA and placement into graduate schools is really tough with the deflation, to get a 3.5-3.7 or above (usually what you need to get into a good graduate school, you have to be top notch.)

i appreciate everyones input. you all have helped me out alot. i am going to visit wake this week and then i will decide from there however my heart keeps on telling me holy cross
