LongRangePlan’s description of watching her son by the mailbox made me remember and go search for this video which I saw when someone else had posted it on CC before.

This is my third child and I hate this part. His Spring Break is the last week of March and I booked us on a trip that will keep us out of wifi range from March 23 to March 30. I figure when we reconnect, he’ll know all within a few minutes, rather than dragging it out over a whole week.

He’s in at his safeties, with good merit aid, but his dream schools won’t be talking to him until that week. We’re feeling good about the acceptances, but can’t help wondering about the other possibilities!

We won’t get aid so most of our facts are in. Waiting on two decisions (one an almost sure No, and another, that will not be affordable at all) D is anxious to pull the trigger on what was previously her number three choice. They have moved up in in rankings this year as she has done more research and grown this year and has become more daring in wanting to go far from home. It is manageable but I would like her to spend just a bit more time on the decision making. It is a matter of no debt to about $20,000 in student loan debt (over 4 years). What I really need is a crystal ball that will tell us if the additional expense is worth it. The opportunities are greater but so is the cost.

We are going on vacation for five days starting March 23… I have been stalking the “send dates” for the last couple of years from each college, and figure that the colleges that are not so high on her list will probably get mail to us or post results before we leave. But the two she cares most about are snail mail, and are almost sure to arrive shortly after we leave. With no online notification. Compounded by the fact that we are going on vacation with the grandparents that we are NOT telling about the college search due to past interference. Argh.
