The Wait List

We just got the same.

We also got a notice that they would not be offering to move our kid off of the wait list at Taft. The e-mail was specific “We cannot offer enrollment to your daughter at this time” type wording, so they may still have spaces in other grades/gender/day students etc.

@new2this17 If you received an enrollment contract in the acceptance package to be sent by 4/10, I would imagine yes, you would lose your spot. I would contact the AO and ask for a short extension.

For whatever it is worth for anyone reading this thread, we wrote Peddie, Loomis, Episcopal, and Hill earlier this week that our DS (FP) would not be attending their school as a freshman next Fall. We are on the West Coast. Perhaps another male, rising 9th grader from the West could email their AO to fill his spot at one of these schools. . . although I am sure they have their own methods of selecting from the wait list.

Also understand that one student declining admission does not necessarily equal one taken from the waitlist. A school will not go to the wait list until the number of committments is less than the space they have. For example, if a school wants to enroll 100 students and typically has an annual yield of 70%, they will send admission letters to 142 applicants. Only after the 43th person declines will they be underenrolled and need to consider going to their waitlist.

Saint Pau’sl School just notified us that they are fully enrolled and will not be going to their wait list this year.

St. Andrew’s School (DE) is fully enrolled as well.

Were deposits due today at 12 AM, or is it due 11:59 PM today?

I believe it will be fine if it reaches today or if you hand it in person today.

ChoatieMom - your note about yield above - I just found this out in Feb and still find it remarkable!
I did read another thread that schools may possibly go to WL more readily this year because they seem to have gone with more conservative numbers on their historic yields.
That was certainly true for us; we even got a Merit Scholarship come to the table last night to sweeten the FA they had already awarded. I think that is a strong indicator that school will be going to the WL. But, there seem to be lots of responses here on this thread that kind of indicate otherwise so maybe it’s just true for our personal selection of schools.
Fascinating.

Just received an email from Choate. So do they mean that if you’re accepted at other schools, they can’t give you admission? How would they know if you have other acceptances? :-/

What does your email say @mathman1201 ?

Greetings from Choate,
Wait List update as of 2:15 PM (EDT) on Friday, April 10th:
For those of you who have commitments to make at other schools I am writing to inform you that we are not in a position to make offers of admission at this point. I am sorry as I know this means Choate may lose great students to other schools who maintain a firm deadline.
As enrollment settles across all grades over the coming days, there may be opportunities to offer admission and I will communicate updates as appropriate. As I indicated in my previous email, it does not look like day student offers will be made from this point on.
We know this is a very challenging process and we thank you for your interest and patience.

@CaringMom11

No, it means that Choate is not going to the wait list before A10, and if accepted elsewhere, you should place your deposit.

The wait list is closed for day students. They may or may not go to the wait list post A10 for boarders. Hope that helps.

So stressful

I write today with an update regarding the status of our wait list.

Our current projections indicate that we are fully enrolled for September 2015. At this time, we do not anticipate offering admission to any students from our wait list. In the weeks ahead, we will continue to monitor our enrollment closely. Of course, we will contact you immediately in the event we are in a position to consider candidates from our wait list.

Thank you for your continued interest in Phillips Academy.

There are still potential surprises for even those schools who currently think that there enrollment for the fall is set. After all, the returning students at probably most schools have yet to get, or to return, their contracts with deposit monies. Attrition of current students (or even those just admitted) can happen anytime after A10 and through the summer, for lots of reasons. However, this does not help those who are now being encouraged to accept other admission offers rather than to continue on the waitlist of their preferred school.

My son received similar wait list letters from several schools including the one posted from soontobeprepmom but stay hopeful - he got in off the Wait List of his 1st choice school this afternoon - with FA! Someone will be getting a call from the school he thought he’d be attending, also a wonderful school! We are still in shock - whoever turned down the spot we got must be crazy! Good luck!

Hi @mathman1201, as skieurope said, Choate’s email means that if you have to let another school know whether you are accepting then you should go ahead and do that, as they wont be able to make you an offer today. They don’t want you to miss a seat at another school waiting for their call. Things may change between now and fall (that is when enrolled students decide to leave for various reasons).

I also want to add that from now on (A11) students will be picked from the wait pool (for any school) if they still have seats left. Today all schools will be able to realize the actual yield % for this year.

Andover certainly titled their email appropriately: “Disappointing Wait List Update” lol

Any info on Exeter’s waitlist for 10th graders?
