Now that all my applications are out of the door, what should I be doing besides praying my ass off? I know I am suppose to keep a close contact with my potential advisors, but how do I go about doing so without being a total bugger? Should I just send an email every few weeks to check with their progress while telling them how much I would love to be in their lab? Is there any other things I should be doing at this point in the game that could potentially improve my chance of getting admitted?

stay out of their mailbox. contact should have occurred PRIOR to the deadline. you'll make it very hard on yourself if you contact the person now and they seem nice enough in a reply and they only end up rejecting you.

Find a new hobby :) Also if you've already driven your advisor/professors up to the wall last semester regarding grad schools, don't visit them for a while. I plan to see my advisor just to say hi once when we get back and avoid her as to NOT to annoy her any more than I already did until the decisions roll in :)

It'll be all over VERY soon... well at least it seems so for me as I had to hand in my applications back in early December!!!

But yes, don't contact anyone unless it's a 911 type of call on your application.
