I had my upenn interview on Feb. 28, which is preeeeeeetty late.
I went there. I've read every single thing on upenn website and prepare tons of good questions to ask.

He started off saying how Upenn has AMAZING applicants every year and it is very hard to separate them apart.

Then he asked me things like "Why Upenn should have you?" "What can you contribute?"
and I did my best to answer them.

He also asked what colleges I am applying to.
I answered them honestly.

He said "Well they're all good schools. You'll be happy there."

It seems like Upenn sent him only to applicants they are not sure of admitting - Is that possible? And it also looks like my interview wasn't good enough to stand out of those "mediocre" applicants. Did I just blow up a chance to get in???

The professionalism of interviewers varies greatly. You did your best - do not worry about it - getting into UPenn is like winning a lottery for most people. A ton of very successful people have gotten rejected by UPenn.

dont worry…i had a REALLY horrible interview and the interviewer basically kept trying to start arguments and pick a fight with me but i still got in ED. just relax :)

my interview was lol.the interviewer asked me about…i think it’s ‘what in your opinion is the most important invention in the last hundred years.’ I think i said sth like airplane.

This was a very bad interviewer. Was he an alumni interviewer?

The interview is one piece of your application. If the adcom at UPenn knows this person isn’t very good at interviewing, which he isn’t, they will give his or her opinion even less weight. You did your best and there isn’t anything you can do about the person conducting the interview.

This isn’t the only time this will happen to you in your life. Of all the job interviews I have had more have been bad than good. One interviewer mentioned that his wife was out of town and would I like to have a drink after the interview. I’m not making this up. I never found out if I got the job, when he called me later I didn’t call back. After the interview I really didn’t want to work for him.
