Any info on the Theater and music programs? How many shows put on a year? Any musicals done? Anyone know if there’s musical theatre classes offered, or if it’s only straight theater? Thanks.

There is a LOT of theater at Brown.

Here's some info:

There's also a ton of music here. I could tell you a lot about vocal music stuff (chorus, a capella, voice lessons, etc), but there's also a lot of instrumental stuff if that's what you're interested in.

more info about music stuff:

If I wanted to start playing an instrument at Brown (violin), are there any orchestras or ensembles just for beginners?

Most are restricted to skilled musicians. Some, like the Brown Band, will teach you the instrument and you can join without any experience at all.

And if there's not something you like, you can always start your own group.

I'm all about the Brown music scene. Haha. I'm in the Brown Derbies (a cappella), Brown Band, and Brown University Chorus. Lemme know if you want any info on 'em.

does anyone know anything about the orchestra or symphonic band? is it really competitive to get into them for flute?

It's fairly competitive (not impossible by any means) for orchestra but only because of the limited number of flutes taken and the number of flutists.
