I'm interested in the undergrad theater programs at CCNY and Hunter, but it's hard to find information about them beyond the department websites. Does anyone know anything about these programs, or theater at CUNYs in general?

Well I am about to graduate from Brooklyn College’s Theater program and I have taken classes at Hunter and City College (which is one of the perks of going to a CUNY school).

The difference with Hunter and City College is:

Hunter
-Liberal Arts College
-have courses dedicated to the study of theater theory such as theater production, world theater 1,2 & 3 (which are writing intensive and a requirement to graduated)
-have musical theater 1 & 2 fall and spring. Spring there is a show for the end of the semester celebration
- students get a chance to chose plays for the school year
-there are only 3 full productions a school year. - there is a stage reading/show in the spring for undergrad/grad playwrights
-next spring will be their first musical (Spring Awakening)
-there is an acting course for classical and naturalism
-if you want to stage manage, assistant direct or be a light, set, costume designer, all you have to do is ask

City College
-Liberal Arts College
their courses are more practical such as acting, directing, technical work
they have a musical once a year in the fall semester
if you want to direct a show, you have to take directing 1 and 2, propose a show at the end of spring semester and you can chose to direct a fall and spring show. you also will get a faculty member to mentor you.
there are eight shows at least a school year! 4 shows are faculty directed and 4 shows are student productions.
there is a workshop show in the fall with a theme. last year was latin playwrights and this year is a new play process where actors, directors and playwrights work together
there is an acting class for classical and the business of acting
if you want to stage manage, assistant direct or be a light, set, costume designer, all you have to do is ask

If you like some perks in each school, you can do CUNY BA program were you will make you own major, chose your own courses and what schools to take them at.
