I've been accepted as a transfer to UCSD Sixth as a Theater major (transfer). I'm still [im]patiently waiting to hear from UCLA... but my question is:

How is the theater program there? I've been told that San Diego has a good theater community, but how is the actual school's program?

The school's program is excellent! The graduate department is one of the highest acclaimed in the country, I've been told. I have gone to several of their performances, and they do know what they're doing pretty well.

Now admittedly, because the graduates are the big thing here, the undergraduate program doesn't get quite as much attention, but it still has the same talented professional staff. The reason you hear so much about the great theater community here is because it is based on the campus - the La Jolla Playhouse's various theaters are in Revelle College, and their staff regularly work on department productions when they have the time (for example, they created an entire wall (20' x 10') full of paper ivy for a production of Twelfth Night in Winter quarter - I thought it was real until I was told otherwise!).

Thank you, BigRed. Can you help me out, though? I'm so confused about the different schools at UCSD. If I was accepted to Sixth, does that mean I'm not going to get the benefit of the La Jolla Playhouse in Revelle? If I knew it was there, I would have put that as my top choice when ranking the schools.

One's college does not affect what program(s) they can join. BigRed meant that the La Jolla Playhouse is just located within the Revelle College Campus.
