Can anyone comment on the opportunities to pursue theater-singing, dancing, directing, acting. Is there a major? Is it just recreational? Are there accapella groups? Student directed musicals? A communications major? Or is it just an EC? Thanks. Not necessarily looking for a BFA like NYU but want to be with people who are serious about it and not just for fun. thanks

Unemployment line. Check out the musical theater major section on the main page. Those people are beyond obsessed with that <cough> major <cough>
I mean how many times can you honestly watch the Sound of Music?</cough></cough>

who said anything about the Sound of music? Is this a typical Penn student-no culture???? What gives? And I am not sure if it is a career choice or just an interest-like playing a sport, or writing for the school newspaper! Thanks for ur help. Guess I won't be considering Penn.

Don't say that! There is a Theater Arts major, and a lot of the students in it seem very enthusiastic and dedicated. Plus, Penn is really known for its performing arts groups...you can check them out here (and search around for the theater/drama ones): http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/osl/perfart.html

Oh and by the way, I just feel like adding that Alan Greenspan studied at Julliard...

Thanks knightmare - I feel alot better!!!

For the record, Joe did not go to Penn (he already graduated from college). I don't know if that changes anything, but he is not a Penn student.

Also, a many pages of Penn-in-Touch are devoted to the numerous performing arts of all varieties. And as for accapella groups, there are numerous, even many religious, ethnic, etc. I don't know what kind of for credit classes are offered though.

Thanks for the support guys. I was really turned off by Jo's comments. This is a forum to get info and I wanted to see if Penn was possibly a good fit for my S. He has strong grades, SAT scores and we were recommended to Penn because it is in a very cultural city and has a great social life. He is not sure what he wants to major in, but he does enjoy singing and acting and may want to continue with it in college-as an EC or possibly a career. There are no guarantees with anything-you can go premed and not get into med school, so should I say "cough, unemployment line" to that person too???

does anyone know of any good dance colleges in Tennessee? please tell m if u do ASAP!!!!!!!!
