i'm a HS senior who plans to study musical theatre in college. my top two choices for schools are NYU's tisch school of the arts and mt. holyoke college. they're incredibly different schools, but i visited and loved both of them. is anyone here a current mt. holyoke student (or recent grad) who could give me some info about the theatre opportunities and their own experiences doing theatre at mt. holyoke/the five college consortium??

While I'm not a student at MHC, my D studied there for her freshman year (transfering this fall). Of the many programs at MHC & the 5 colleges, musical theater was not one I recall seeing, and it would have caught my attention as my major was improvisational theater (so I have a theater background). This section of the board is not very active. Have you gone to the MHC "jolt" bulletin board? You can post to active students there. It can be found by going to the MHC website, clicking the link "for students" (on the right) then scrolling down the page to the section "around the web" to "Daily Jolt" click "forum" from there. You don't need to be a student to post, but you might need to create a screen name. Best to you.

Suzan-Lori Parks is an award-winning American playwright and screenwriter. She was a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant in 2001, and received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2002. Parks would credit Mount Holyoke later in life for her success. She said in a newspaper interview that she was inspired by Wendy Wasserstein, a 1971 Mount Holyoke graduate who won the Pulitzer in 1989 for her play The Heidi Chronicles. "Mount Holyoke women rule, baby," Parks was quoted as saying. There's something in the water."
