Theatre/Film double major

Is double majoring in film production/theatre even possible? I feel like the two go hand in hand and I'm equally interested in both. Are there any schools out there that let people double major in both these fields?

You may want to investigate BA programs that have more flexible curriculums than BFAs. Kenyon combines dance, drama, and film into one department; I’m sure there are others.

At James Madison University we have student who double major in the two.

You might want to look at Chapman’s BFA in screen acting. It’s a joint program between their acting and film schools.

@itsthejourney I will-I’ve been looking into Chapman for strictly film. But I’ll consider that.
@KatMT how big is JMU? I’m looking for a bigger school since I go to a tiny one now.
@Times3 Kenyon is too small for me. But, I’ll look into BAs

Southern Methodist University allows double majoring with their BFA Acting and BFA Theatre Studies degrees. Double majoring with film is time-intensive, but possible with the Theatre Studies focus.

@Aspiring6776 Does Southern Methodist U shove religion down your throat? I personally don’t like when universities or schools try to actively enforce religion down your throat or is more of a lax thing at SMU?

Oh my goodness, no! I was worried about that too with private schools. It does show up at certain points – there is a Christmas celebration where they may read a bible story, convocation has a prayer, and there is a philosophy/religion general education requirement (which can be fulfilled by any two philosophy or religion courses from Primal Religions to World Religions and anywhere in between), but religion doesn’t impact the daily life of students unless you join religious organizations, and the aforementioned events are not even mandatory. I would say it is about as prevalent as it is at Chapman, if that.

James Madison is just under 20,000 students. The School of Theatre & Dance has approximately 270 majors (majoring in dance, musical theatre, or theatre). I am not sure of the size of the School of Media Arts and Design… but, I believe bigger than 270.

@Aspiring6776 I currently go to Quaker school, where we have a religious requirement, but they’re pretty lax about whatever religion you choose to follow. Because i know some religious based schools shove religion down their students’ throats, which I’m uncomfortable with.
