I want to know the quality of the theatre opportunities at northwestern for those who go to weinberg college of liberal arts and have another major.
Can you take classes in the communications school (on the same level as a major class)?
Do you have a realistic chance of landing parts in extracurricular theater productions (are there often Weinberg students in them?
In other words, can the experience for a theater minor rival that in other great theater colleges where theater isn't in a separate school?

Hi,
My son is a sophomore theatre major at NU, currently home on break so I asked him this question. He said that you can get cast if you have a “great” audition, but that it is quite a bit harder to be cast as a non-major. A good deal of the reason is because as a non-major, you are not known to the directors and producers. (Students direct and produce all the non-mainstage shows.) While you can take some classes in SoC, you can’t for example get into the 3 year Acting sequence which is reserved for majors. You could take a dance class, but there are some which give preference to majors, and those fill up quickly with majors.
