Theatre tech programs -- portfolio review/interview importance over grades?

For the theatre tech experts here – a spin on the often-requested info from acting and MT majors – what strong theatre tech programs/schools place some/more importance on portfolio review/interview over grades?

In the MT forum there is an older but valuable thread listing Most Selective, More Selective, Selective, Less Selective, and Not Reported schools for MT.

Trying to get a better understanding of how this applies for theatre tech programs.

It’s easy to see how a 3.3 GPA (weighted) would not bode well for a Theatrical Design module at Northwestern, for example. But reportedly this may be less of an issue at Carnegie Mellon.

(Is there any data on this anywhere? I’m thinking it is more anecdotal.)

I haven’t been able to find a lot out there. D has 3.6 weighted, though, which did (pretty much) knock her out of the running @ several schools, including NW, UMich, and probably a few others. However, that GPAhas been good enough to get her top merit aid at some of the conservatory-esque and small LIbArts/strong theatre schools she’s applied to. Most of them don’t have a high GPA threshold for BFA kids (and some BAs). PM me if you’d like actual specifics. I do t want to put too much detail out there until she gets artistically accepted as well as academically.
