Hi all, I’m a college student looking to transfer. I’m looking mainly at colleges in Florida and California.
Currently, my top choices are:
CSU Long Beach
CSU Fullerton
FAU
FSU
I’d prefer to be in either of those states since they wouldn’t have as much of a financial burden, but i’ll take other suggestions.
I’m studying Theatre design and production- mainly interested in stage management but i’m also interested in learning about other aspects. Still on the fence about getting a BFA, or a more “well-rounded” education with a BA.
Can anyone give any school suggestions, and your experiences/advice?
Thank you!
Where are you studying now, and why do you want to leave?
Why are both FL and CA cheaper for you?
Have you made direct comparisons of the offerings of all of these programs? Are they truly equivalent?
How many productions would you work on each year? Are productions restricted to BFA candidates? Where do their graduates get professional work?
Have you applied and been accepted? What have they told you about transferrable credits? How long will it take to graduate?
I’m going to a community college in Florida, I want to transfer to finish my degree. I’m from California, but will become a Florida resident. I only know about the programs at CSU’s, but have heard good things about those Florida schools. I will be done with my AA by the end of the year, so I will be applying soon. I would like to get as much production experience as possible during college. At a certain school I believe stage management work is restricted to BFA students (UCF)
You need to verify the details about where you can be considered in-state. Some students are in-state at more than one, some find that they are in-state nowhere.
I don’t know much about stage management programs. Happykid is a lighting designer. She & her pals graduated from community colleges here in MD, and transferred to public Us in MD. They’ve all successfully launched. I expect that wherever you land you can be successful. Do you have a preference for starting out your career in CA or in FL?
What about UF Gainesville? I know a design MFA candidate there.
There is a Theater major forum inside the college majors forum. Not as many tech folks as actors of course, but it could be a good place to ask your questions.
Wishing you all the best!
