Theatre @ Wesleyan

How strong is the program? and could anyone tell me about it?

sorry i'm in a hurry. I'm not a theater major but i think the theater program here is quite strong. some of the professors are real experts. they also have a number workshops and guest speakers.
what's really exciting is that students produce their own stuff here. I think this semester there are 10 student plays. I've seen 4 or 5 and love them all.

Also, the group "Second Stage" provides the means for students to easily direct, act, do tech, write, whatever for their own plays. You don't have to be a theatre major and you can get involved at any level of participation you want. They help you with funding and exploitable people with certain theatre talents and all that good stuff. There's usually a play put on about every weekend, it seems.

anyone else?

All of the performing arts at Wesleyan are solid programs and tend to have a synergistic effect on one other; for example, it's hard to take theater without developing an interest in dance; it's hard to take dance without taking at least one music course; music often leads to anthropology (Ethnomusicology is a Wesleyan specialty); it's like the Kevin Bacon game -- but, with courses -- everything is one or two degrees of separation from everything else.

Alumni who have cycled through the theater department over the years include, actors William Christopher
54 (M*A*S*H*), Dana Delaney
78 (Presidio Med), Bradley Whitford
81 (West Wing), Christopher Wink
83 (founding member of Blue Man Group), Alix Olso `97 (performance artist and slam poet) and countless writers, directors and producers.
