I'm guessing theft isn't a big problem at CMU... but what about laptops... and would it be a bad idea to bring a top of the line aleinware computer to my dorm.

How can you ensure you're stuff stays safe.

How can you ensure you're stuff stays safe.

You lock your door, and make sure your roommate does too. Stuff usually only disappears if it's left unattended in the open- like wallets sitting out in the locker room. The only thing I had disappear was my graphing calculator, which reappeared a week later, so maybe I just misplaced it. I also accidentally switched socks with my roommate (who would have guessed we would have identical furry blue striped socks).

Your computer will be fine; if it's a desktop it won't be going anywhere, and if it's a laptop, just make sure your door gets locked. Don't leave it unattended in the library/UC when you get food or go to the bathroom.

you can also get a security cable for your laptop, I'm going to order one soon

I have a security cable, but it's heavy and a pain and I couldn't get the part that was supposed to be in my laptop to stay.

oh really? if I get one i'll order from somewhere with a good return policy then just in case
