I'm a freshman about to enter Cal and I'm looking at housing. Theme housing caught my eye, specifically APATH since I'm asian. I just wanted to know people's opinions on themed housing, and especially if i should do it as a freshman. Is it a good way to meet people? Is there any huge commitment involved? Online it says that it's 2-4 hours a week in seminars and meetings, etc. but I wanted to hear from peoples' personal experiences as well.

Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!

Hey Alluric,

I’m not in APATH, but I know someone who is. It is a really really good way to meet people. I think the people who are in APATH right now are really close and good friends. As for the time commitment, i dont think it is that much. Yes you take a weekly seminar but thats pretty much it. I think this year APATH started going a Lunar New Year festival. Hopefully someone will come in who is in APATH or has been in it.

Hey thanks for the response. My main concern I think is that I’m afraid of “tying myself down” in a sense, as a freshman, since I won’t know anyone really and I might just latch on to this community instead of branching out. But I suppose that’s more of a problem with me rather than the group. Also, are the dorms priced differently? I think i read that these themed houses cost more, i would love some verification on that.

I never heard of any theme programs costing more. Hmm it really depends on your room I believe (whether you live in a double or triple in Unit 2). I may be wrong though.

Hey thanks GoBears for your responses, I really appreciate it. Does anyone else, preferably someone with experience in APATH, have any thoughts?
