Hi, I'm a senior in high school right now and I'm enrolled in DAAP for industrial design starting the fall quarter of 2011. I'm starting to apply for housing and I am trying to figure out where the best places to live are. I read about the themed living that is available at Daniels Hall for DAAP students. Does anybody know whether or not themed living is a good idea? I feel like it could be a good experience to be surrounded by students that are all serious about the arts and will have an equally hard course load as myself. Any information about DAAP themed living or themed living in gerneral is much appreciated. Thank you!

I wouldn’t call it themed living- As it’s just a bunch of stuents with the same major on one floor. I would say the DAAP floor is the most fun though… sadly for me I enrolled kinda late for housing and all that and was on the “daap overflow” floor one story up. It was much quieter with a random mix of daap and non daapers… but still fun. The DAAP floor in daniels is always filled with students doing work and having fun It’s definitely an alternative from working in studio… The one thing about daniels is that you need to be prepared for the 4am fire alarms pulled by a drunk kid or something. They happen a couple of times each quarter (I think in calhoun as well… id recommend daniels over calhoun)- but you do get used to it as annoying as they are.

Anyways I would recommend the DAAP floor if you’re looking for a good mix of social life and work life. And honestly, most of your time will probably be in studio, so I wouldn’t worry too much about where you’re living.

Hi Amy - You’ve probably made your dorm choice by now, but if not … I would certainly recommend DAAP floor at Daniels. My son is first year ID@ DAAP and on the specialty floor. Yes, the Dorm is old and sorta cruddy and most assignments are quad , alternating male/female room. But…the floor is very social, respectful of timing/resources needed to complete projects. Very handy when you run out of critical supplies at 2:00 AM. Also because of concentration of DAAPsters in Daniels, there are always late night groups walking back to dorm from DAAP building. During our dorm tour, many who were disappointed by the out of date bathrooms/showers decided to capitalize on the fact the the REC Center is in between Daniels and DAAP and using that as a daily pit stop for workout and shower was a GOOD thing !

hoping my daughter gets on the DAAP daniels hall. she will be a freshman fall of 2014. wont’ know anyone as we are from maryland
