I am trying to help a student at Bates find a therapist outside of campus (but close by). I am looking for a therapist who specializes in trauma and PTSD. Has anyone had experience with a particular therapist that you would recommend? Thank you.
@Serendipity123 , did the counseling center at Bates come up empty-handed on this?
Or did the student not click with first person assigned? My D switched to a psychologist who worked with the college but was primarily independent.
If she hadn’t made this work, I would have called to ask.
Many colleges do have affiliations with local resources.
@MaineLonghorn has a wealth of knowledge in this area.
@Serendipity123 Have you tried Tri County Mental Health Services? It’s in Lewiston. https://www.tcmhs.org/
My son’s psychiatrist is the Medical Director there. If you have any specific questions, ask me! I will be seeing him tomorrow!
Thank you for your responses. I am uncertain what happened with the counseling services. I don’t think there was a feeling of trust established, it just wasn’t a good fit. Thank you @MaineLonghorn for the recommendation, I will look into it.
There are a number of counselors at Bates. Maybe the student could ask to switch.
I have no knowledge regarding therapists or college counselors, but I wonder if an issue revolves around the school and/or other students if an outside counselor might be a better option.
My D had someone assigned and didn’t click. She asked for another choice and it worked out. Not everyone in college counseling offices who might be initially assigned is automatically the right fit. Same as in life outside college.
