There's a raccoon on my neighbor's roof!

which I have access to (the roof is parallel with my bedroom window).

I'm going to try and feed him some sardines :D. I just have to wait till the neighbor stops watching it so I can lob some over without her seeing.

How unusual.

Several years ago, racoons would climb a tree to the roof of a family member’s house. They only did this during heavy rains, and they would just sit there in the pouring rain. There were some woods about six blocks away and I believe they probably would leave the woods when the rains would cause a small river to overflow its banks, flooding the adjacent woods. They were quite interesting as they climbed down the tree backwards to come down from the roof.

After several weeks of doing this, they started to knock some of the clay tiles loose and to burrow under the eaves into the attic. We had to catch them in live traps and release them some distance away. It took several attempts to catch them since at first they managed to take the bait without activating the traps. As they are nocturnal, they got caught in the trap sometime during the night and probably spent all night trying to get out since their front paws were slightly bloody when we checked the traps in the morning.

If you feed them, I think they will continue to visit and may do damage to the neighbor’s roof, which can ge expensive to repair.

hmm i don’t know how nomadic raccoons are, but the ones that I know of near me have been living in some bushes across the street for a few years at least I think. I’m not sure if they would relocate just because of a few sardines every now and again, but I guess it’s possible. Supposedly they do really like sardines.

Wow, amazing. They are certainly pretty nimble.

I fed it sardines and salmon tonight (canned of course). I know its bad but it was being too cute. I couldn’t stop. Anyway looks like I made a new friend :D.

What should I name her? (I think it’s a her - it was rolling around on the neighbor’s roof and this is what my eyes led me to conclude).

^Name her Rabby. It’s Abby with in ‘R’ in front for the rabies she could carry one day.

Just make sure she doesn’t scratch or bite you, and if she does go to the hospital. Raccoons can carry some nasty stuff.

lol …

They can also tear a hole in the roof and make a home in the attic.

This racoon may be looking for a place to DELIVER her offspring, such as your attic or crawl space. You need to call animal or vector control immediately and have it trapped. If you had to pay for the repairs they can cause, I’m betting you wouldn’t be trying to befriend it!:)
