They made a decision...

S's application was complete by 10/18 and as of 1/31 there was no decision. S sent email asking if they needed additional info etc and when he could expect a decsion since clearly if you app is in by 11/30 you will hear by 1/31.They answered his email saying that since he indicated interest in playing a sport he would have to contact the coach and no decision could be made. His numbers are 1380 old SAT 1980 new sat and 3.4un but goes to an elite prep school. He did apply to the business school. I suppose he should have not mentioned the sport. How is this fair. Since his numbers and the early app clearly put him in acceptable range, i think it is wrong for admissions to rely on the coaches word. I certain that lots of applicants list that they would 'like' to play a sport in college but their app is not contingent upon it. So where is the student in the student-athlete???

My school doesn't weight, but I've taken all honors and some AP classes. Last time I calculated it was a 4.1

I GOT MY DECISION REVERSED....initially i was offered altoona, but after i sent some emails i just got back the decision...IM IN AT UNIVERSITY PARK!!!

Shenobi, how did you do it? Please explain...and what major? If I call them up and tell them my situation and how PSU is my top choice, etc...and how I got my midyr report and ACT score, think I could get a change as well?

Try it -- you've got nothing to lose! Perhaps a well written letter (with attached documentation for new stats) to the Director of Admissions would be even more effective than emails. Good luck!

Parikhs, did you enter a second choice campus in your PSU app?

No I didn't add a second choice and didn't check off summer session. I'm going to call them and tell them they are still my #1 choice and I'm 95% sure of attending, but the choice of campus is holding me back. I'll see what they say ;-)

Well...I was sort of a special case....I explained to them that I missed 42 consectutive days of school because of an injury as a freshman--so thats why my freshman grades were low. And I'm also in a Allied Health program this year which was pretty impressive as well. I'd say if you think you have a case then definietly ask your counselor to hook you up (make sure that you mention that you will go undecided or summer session if that doesn't bother you-- I dont have to attend summer session though. My counselor knew someone at Abington, referred me to her and once I presented my case to her, she sent my things to the one of the top admissions officers at University Park.

parakis i would leave out the 95%, and make it 100%

thats right.....tell them its your number one school

seriously like i said before....if you truly believe you belong there...TELL THEM THAT....I'm sure that you could compare yourself to other kids at your school who have been accepted and make a case for yourself (for instance, I mentioned how I took more AP classes than some of the kids already accepted at University Park)

parikhs, I just got the same news today. Acceptance to Altoona, but not UP... :(
