They said casual but should I...

Hi, so soon I will be having a tutoring job interview...

I asked them last week for the dress code and she said, "Oh just casual". However, this person is just the assistant of the person who will be conducting the interview.

So, should I wear a tie and white shirt or just casual?

I would suggest a nice button up and nice pants.

I had a “casual” interview once and I wore khaki pants and a sweater (I’m a girl). I was really glad I wore that, because one of my interviewers was in a suit and the other was wearing khakis and a dress shirt. I would have felt weird if I were sitting there in jeans.

Unless it’s a position in manual labor I am not sure if I would ever go to a job interview in anything less than khakis and a good top-- not necessarily a dress shirt but not a t-shirt.

Ya I would suggest not taking the advice of the person not hiring you…so go in business and if its too nice it could come across a professional. Thats always good

Don’t wear a suit, but otherwise dress in dress pants, shirt, and tie. That will never be over dressed.

I agree with Ema…07’s advice, but if you still feel unsure, you could call and ask, “What do people who have this job wear to work?” Then dress like that, or perhaps just a little more nicely.

You could do something like khakis and a polo, with dress shoes. Tuck it in with a belt (that matches the color of the shoes) for extra fanciness whilst still being casual.

Remember the old adage, it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.

A more relaxed business casual blends in well with “casual”. Or, you can try “smart-casual” by adding a button-down shirt and sports coat to some jeans.
