Things That Annoy Me During Class

I just came back from the most annoying class I have ever attended. Am I alone/crazy? These are the things that I just can't stand and just experienced:

When people type EVERY damn word on the screen, especially when it's posted online. Then have the nerve to stop the professor so they can finish/catch up.

People who sit there on their phones, heads down, no paper/laptop out. Are you even listening to them at all?

People who are loud in the other things they are doing: eating, earphones (yep), snoring....

:(

If it bothers you this much, try speaking to the professor after class. I wouldn’t complain about students taking notes on laptops, that’s their choice and note taking is good, but tell the professor you find things like phones and earphones to be really distracting and that it’s interfering with your ability to learn.

Or if it’s not distracting you from class… well, in that case it’s not really any of your business what other students are doing, and if they want to listen to music or check their phones, it’s none of your concern.

Things That Annoy Me During Class

That kid who HAS to challenge everything the professor says and makes it their goal to make the professor look stupid.

That kid who laughs way to LOUD and LONG at a joke that wasn’t that funny…

That kid who acts like a know-it-all and is constantly mumbling smart remarks under his breath.

It always annoyed me when the someone had to correct the professor when they misspelled something on the board. Not something that made any difference for understanding, but where the intended word was clear it was just one letter off or something.

^ That seemed to happen all the time in high school. “Excuse me, question #17 says ‘and’ twice.” Uuugh stop wasting everybody’s time.

People that take my seat I’ve been sitting in the whole semester

This probably won’t do anything other than the professor asking students not to do this, which will most likely have little effect. I will say though that one of my professors sent out a hilarious email about this sort of issue, so you may get something good out of it :)

Something you could try is sitting in the front of the class so that you don’t see people do things to annoy you.

Lol maybe sit away from them……I’m usually too focused listening to the lecture to pay attention to what others are doing

OMG yes, or “it says Monday on the board, it is Tuesday”. Like ***… okay… Sad thing is this is still happening in my classes.

I once had a classmate sitting in front of me in a lecture hall skype with someone through an entire lecture. I could see myself behind them in the camera as they made silly faces for two hours and talked about football. I wanted to punch them.

That one person who has to talk all throughout the class and hold everyone up… I know it shouldn’t get annoyed by this but sometimes I just want to get on with the lecture.

I hate it when people start packing up to leave 5 MINUTES before the class is actually over.

@ intergalactic: Maybe some of those people actually have another class they have to get to and don’t want to be late. I had a quarter where I had to leave a class 5 minutes early in order to get to my second class on the other side of campus on time to be able to find a decent seat in the front and not in the back and also so I don’t miss the short weekly quizzes at the beginning of class that we only have 5 minutes to work on.

That is very true, sopranokitty. I have four classes that are back to back. Leaving on time is crucial. I generally pack up when theres two or three minutes left, but I start watching the time and placing small things in my bag around five minutes till.

People who pick their noses then proceed to flick the biomaterial in a random direction… yes it’s a large lecture hall, and yes people can still see you.

Ema - I would have joined in to their conversation! And done some silly faces myself.

I really don’t like when someone’s filling out a teacher evaluation form and rates everything as a 5/5. Seriously? Every single aspect of the class was perfect or near-perfect? There’s no way you’d improve the class for future students?

I like my humans to have discerning minds in general, but this in particular is just unhelpful.

It’s group work (we take some tests and turn in assignments as a group) and you’re on your phone 24/7 playing a game or reading comics, behind your notebook… The professor confiscated some phones saying that it’s like high school–because you’re not supposed to be using them for the sake of your group. -->Enjoy mooching off the student that still would’ve got an A on the physics final alone.

Complaining about easy assignments they forgot to do on time.

Something that the professor called out that he’s been annoyed all semester for: The guy keeps turning around and smirking at his friend for apparently no reason (and professor asks why and he wouldn’t admit)… It distracts me.
