Was just wondering if any past deferred-SCEA, accepted-RD students could be kind enough to share what they did after? Did you guys send in another essay or...?

From a deferred IMO medalist who wants to study maths at Yale :)

I would not recommend sending another full blown essay, jmo.

Possible things to send: additional test scores or awards, supplemental LOR (if you haven’t already sent one), a brief paragraph about you or what you like about Y, but only if you haven’t said it before in your application.

Have you met the regional rep for your location (maybe at a college fair)? If you haven’t, find out who s/he is, and look for ways to build a relationship. The challenge is to steer a course between being invisible and being a pest. You want the regional rep to have some sense of who you are and to know that you really want Yale. Part of how you do that is to send in significant new information – entomom’s list is good, and there may be additional things that come along for you.

If you had an alumni interview, sent a message to your interviewer saying that you were deferred and that you’d appreciate anything s/he could do to let Yale know that you’d love to come. (Interviewers are asked not to contact you if you were deferred or denied, but are free to respond if you initiate.) Alumni interviewers aren’t a major factor in Yale’s admissions decision, but why leave any stone unturned?

Finally, make sure you have some backups that you can fall in love with.

By “sending in” new information, we mean through fax, right?
Not through email to the regional admissions officer?

And should we wait until we have a lot of things to report, or should we report achievements continuously?
sigh, I really want Yale.

Also, can we edit essays already sent?

No, once submitted your essays cannot be changed.

^major sadfaces right here. I’ve edited what I submitted heavily. oh well.

^Sorry, it’s one of the downsides of applying early. Apps tend to get better as you go through the process and refine things.

I never realized that when I was applying to Yale.
I just hope they still like them (I mean, they weren’t bad, they just got much better) and accept me.

Alumni interviewers can’t do anything to help you out. Don’t go that route.

Is there any particular “due date” for when any updates need to be sent in? I’m expecting some awards in January and February of next year, but I’m trying to figure out if it would be better to send things now and leave those out, or to wait until February and sent them then.

Also, a teacher has offered to write me a recommendation letter (one that would add more insight on who I am as a person/in the community/in my ECs) but says he will write it during 2nd semester (late January) when he has more time to focus on it. Is this too late?

I know Princeton has a deadline of “late January” but does Yale?

Probably late January for Yale.

I’m in the same shoes, classic. I’ve been told email is okay and it’s best to email updates every once in a while unless it’s major. You don’t wanna bother them bit want to staying their mind.
Here’s hoping we both get in in April

Does anyone know how we find out who are regional admissions counselor is?

[Staff | Yale College Admissions](Connect With Yale Admissions | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions)

So my friend (who is a freshmen at Yale) wrote a peer recommendation for Dartmouth and it was simply the best/nicest thing every written about me… Would it be worth it to send it in?

When my counselor emailed my regional admissions officer to ask why I was deferred, she was told to have me “write the admissions committee a thoughtful letter about the reasons Yale is his first choice school”

This would probably be a good idea for any deferred students.
