This is just a list for people who are new to boarding school and people who have gone. For those who have been there, what isn't on the list that you usually forget or think of later? Please don't repeat everything btw!
P.S. On a totally unrelated note, what is so special about Exeter and all them? I'm going to a great school next year with the IB curriculum and the Harkness thing and all but for some reason everyone thinks they're better... What makes them so special?

Thank you SO much! I’m going to St. Timothy’s in Stevenson MD, but it’s really small so you probably haven’t heard of it… Anyway, This is a really good list. Is there anything I should buy after I get there? A lot of people say so, but I don’t see a reason not to just bring it all. What do you have in your dorms?
And I’m not allowed to have a refrigerator. :(

Bump!
10 chars…

@Dare2Differ: That’s a really comprehensive list and it provides even the number of clothes we should have…thanks!

@OnlySlghtlyCrazy: (cool username) If your school prohibits refrigerators like mine does, ask if you are allowed to have an electric cooler; it does basically the same job.
Also check out this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/311892-ultimate-supply-list-boarding-school.html

Thanks Urbanflop! That’;s a really good thread too… except at like page 20 or so when it gets really off topic… But this is really helpful and I’ll ask about the electric cooler What school do you guys go to?
And thanks I always use this username :D

I will be a new prep at Exeter this fall. (Check my Location below my username)
Also, you can search for more supply lists if you type it in the “Search” place if you need more information.

Okay I’m thinking about transferring into Exeter for 10th grade because I didn’t know about it… Would that be weird?

^^as opposed to a returning prep?

Yeah.
10 Characters!

well, i buy most of my school supplies there. also i live really close by (i go to george school in newtown pa) so i can always have my parents send more things or anything i forgot. my dorms have a bed, a closet, a dresser, and a desk.

Yeah I think that’s what I have too. I can’t wait to go!!!
Still thinking on applying to Exeter… But I really like the IB and Exeter doesn’t have that…

oh, and urbanflop - the numbers are what just what i think i need. for instance, i do track so i wear a lot of tee shirts and i don’t do too much laundry. you’ll probably need to adjust them a bit for you, but i think they’re a good starting point.

Okay, I do track too, but I also play basketball so I will probably end up changing several things. We were told that it’s better to bring less than more in terms of clothes and dorm supplies.

yeah i have a tendency to go overboard on the little things… packing up my room was HELL lol. i do find there are a lot of things you don’t think about that you need, like rain boots (forgot those on my list haha), so use this as a base and figure out what YOU need. pm if you like, i’d be flattered to answer questions.

Haha okay then. I just bought a lot of the dorm stuff I’ll need as far as the dorm goes. I’m ordering the uniform and textbooks next week and doing clothes shopping the week after. Then it’ll all be done… Uggh and the paperwork. I have to go finish the paperwork…
