I realize this is a bit of a "lame" question and i know there is another extensive thread on "what to bring to boarding school" but I was wondering if students at Exeter typically bring their own comforters/blankets and sheets? It mentions that Exeter provides those things, but do the students really use the school owned bedding or do most bring their own? Also, do most kids bring bikes to school? Thank you in advance for anyone who can help out...

I bought bedding sheets and a comforter a couple days for exeter. I’m not sure if thats the norm since I’m an incoming student but it’s what I did =)

Exeter provides two flat sheets - they are white. They also provide a thin wool blanket. The mattresses are extra long so you will need at least two extra long fitted sheets to make your life easier then you can use the white flats. You will also want a comforter. But that 's about all you need. The rooms are heated in the winter - sometimes too hot, according to my daughter. A pretty rug is also nice.

Thanks guys, that is helpful. The day after I posted, we received an email from Exeter which detailed what to bring! I don’t think it mentioned a rug, though, but that is a great idea!

definitely don’t plan on using the sheets/blanket/pillow that you’re provided. the pillow were covered in some sort of leather like material that was rather unappealing to sleep on, and the sheets and blanket were pretty old and rather gross. if you have two sets of flat and fitted sheets and a few blankets, you should be fine. sometimes the heating kicks in late or doesn’t work properly–my heater would only work about half the time.

generally, most kids don’t bring bikes, but those who do tend to use them quite a bit.

What about bed risers? Those things they sell to elevate your bed. Does anyone know if those fit/work on exeter beds?

Bed risers aren’t necessary - you can adjust the height of your mattress, and they go up pretty high. For bed sheets, I think you need the twin extra long size. I thought the sheets were fine, but I preferred my pretty green ones to the plain white ones. Rugs are definitely good to have, and some people bring extra cushy chairs, desk lights, etc to make things a little happier! At the end of the year, a lot of upperclassmen sell a bunch of their furniture for really cheap, too.

I wouldn’t buy a rug before seeing the actual room. Some singles are small, and a rug that isn’t really small will just get in the way. Other rooms are huge and can use much bigger rugs. I’d suggest waiting until you see the room (and check with the roommate).
