Hi, unfortunately at my school, we have no clubs or anything related to Computer Science. I plan on studying CS and I was wondering if there was anything I could do over the summer that could help me boost my chances of getting into a strong CS program. My school has very few engineering clubs, but I only did them in Freshman year and stopped because I did not particularly enjoy that type of engineering. I am going to be a senior in the fall. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP
I don’t think there’s anything left to do from an admissions standpoint, but trying to learn a language would be a good starting point. codeacademy.com has a good sequence on Python that I would recommend.
Create a GitHub account, find a project or idea that interests you (even if it’s a clone of something that already exists), and just make something. Yeah, for admissions, it’s late in the game. And how can a school hold it against you to not be in a CS club when there are none? And for most college admissions, they’re looking for a generally strong student with demonstrated interest in CS/programming. You don’t have to start the next Facebook/Microsoft/whatever during high school to get into a very good CS program.
(Side note: that username/pic combo comes off as somewhat pretentious)
@nanotechnology Thanks for the info and I didn’t actually get an 800 in Math. It’s actually a funny story and if you want I can PM you the story.
