Things You Should Never Do on Specific College Campuses...

Don't dress up as a nun at Notre Dame.

Don't comment on anyone's weight at Mt. Holyoke or Barnard.

I have definitely seen the Yankees cap at MIT, and those people seem to get away with it with no problems. Some professors even do it :P. Lot of people from NY here.

"Don't...

... wear USC gear on the UCLA campus. And vice-versa.

I'm going to be at 'SC this fall and I will admit, I DO want to put on an extremely obvious/somewhat obnoxious deep cardinal red USC hoodie sweatshirt on, and go to the UCLA campus and just walk around, just to see what would happen. Actually, I don't think anything much would happen, because I will admit that UCLA kids seem pretty indifferent and decent in general. But it'd be interesting anyway. If I have enough guts and free time one day, and can drag a bunch of similarly bored 'SC friends to go with me, I'll do it sometime during my years at USC."

Ha ha! Thats funny! I used to wear UCLA shirts and hats all the time at USC when I got my masters. Yeah, them Trojans sure are a violent bunch of students. Actually, most were pretty cool about it. The football players would stare though. Good thing I am pretty tough myself. I think UCLA students dont take the rivalry with USC that serious though.

"Thats funny! I used to wear UCLA shirts and hats all the time at USC when I got my masters"

I am both amused and slightly offended at the same time. :)

I've decided-- sometime during my years at 'SC I WILL go on the UCLA campus in full 'SC gear-- just to see what would happen.

(Though I agree with you-- people probably won't do a thing at all, because they're cool about it. I'll just have to make sure that when I do do that, it won't be on a game day or something.... people change on actual game days, and I don't want to be beaten up... :P)

"I have definitely seen the Yankees cap at MIT, and those people seem to get away with it with no problems. Some professors even do it :P. Lot of people from NY here."

You can get away with it, but us locals don't like it, not one bit ;-)

This is just so funny that it deserves to be posted again:

Job interviewer: "Where do you see yourself in five years?"
Peter: (thinks to himself: Don't say doin' your wife, don't say doin' your wife, don't say doin' your wife) "Doin' your...son?"

Back in the day, I used to wear a button around campus that stated I hate everybody, which really disturbed people. It was meant to be a joke, but people didn't get it.

don't offer the olsen twins food at NYU
oh harsh

"because I will admit that UCLA kids seem pretty indifferent and decent in general."

Generally true though you'd be surprised. I walked out of a losing basketball game at Pauley Pavilion in cardinal/gold and got called everything imaginable, and not just from students - old fogies too. And when I was stuck in traffic trying to get out, some fraty guy even ran up to my car (with a USC sticker) and kicked it!

On the the Duke campus, don't wear a sweatshirt that says "DOOK"--on second thought, DOIT!

"I walked out of a losing basketball game at Pauley Pavilion in cardinal/gold and got called everything imaginable, and not just from students - old fogies too. And when I was stuck in traffic trying to get out, some fraty guy even ran up to my car (with a USC sticker) and kicked it!"

Beepin UCLA beepholes! Kicking your car... aw, come on... the UCLA people must have been drunk or just espcially rowdy or something to have done that to you. Sorry that happened to you megastud. Most UCLA kids aren't that nuts... :(

"old fogies too"

Hah hah hah. To a point, school spirit in older people can be inspiring. But to THAT extent... let's just say when some old fogies start bickering and being snide over the colleges they attended like scores of years ago, it starts seeming PATHETIC.

Oh well.

What about USC kids? Have you personally ever observed them being likewise rude to that extent to rivals?

Don't bring your wine cooler to BYU. Actually, don't bring any diet coke to BYU either.

oddly enough though
one can bring their stash of AK-47's and steyr augs

Never wear a Stanford sweatshirt at UC Berkeley. And vice versa.

[/quote]
I don't think the stanford students care that much, but if you ever want to get a LOT of attention wear a red shirt and sit in the Cal student section at a football game. Sooner or later the chant will go up "take off that red shirt" and they're not kidding, either! Chant from thousands of students doesn't stop until shirt comes off or you leave.

Interesting. Yeah, I've seen that intensity at Cal but lacking at Stanford.

Hrm.

Actually, Yale is in New Haven so that's neutral ground.

Boston has everything north and east of New Haven. The Yankees have everything west and south.

New Haven is neutral ground.

DON'T wear an MIT shirt at Cal Tech, and vice versa.

I would think that one should avoid the color "burnt orange" at Texas A&M

Don't Eat Sushi in Ithaca for several days after the Cornell Harvard Hockey game.

explanation: Massive quantities of fish are thrown on the ice at the begining of any Cornell Harvard Hockey game at Lynah Rink.
