Thinking about dropping AP Physics 2, will this look really bad to colleges?

Hey guys. I’m coming to you with a sort of urgent situation since the last day to drop any classes for the year is Friday and it is currently Wednesday night/Thursday around midnight. I’m currently taking 5 APs (Calc BC, Physics 2, Lit, Advanced Photo, and US Gov) and am wondering if it will look bad to colleges if I opt not to continue with Physics 2.

I plan on applying to several competitive universities that I really want to go to (approx. 1/3 of the unis I’ll be applying to have an acceptance rate of less than 30%) so the idea of having a free period on my transcript really scares me. Any advice would be extremely helpful.

Thanks guys!

How many years of science do you have? General rule of thumb is that you should have a bio/chem/physics track and then complete one at a higher level (i.e. AP); if you only have 3 years, you’ll be negatively affected.

I have Honors Earth Science, Honors Bio, Chemistry (summer), and AP Physics 1 so far.

Since you have AP Physics 1, you don’t need to take AP Physics 2 - you have plenty of science. However, you should see with your guidance counselor whether there’s any elective you could take during that class period.
In addition, top colleges will expect 4 years each of English, Science, and Social Science, plus Math through calculus (or precalculus if nothing else can be done) and Foreign Language through Level 4 or AP. Are you good with all of these? If not, replace AP Physics 2 with the missing class. If not, take something “fun” that’ll help you stand out - take Shop, or Cooking, or Choir, or Current Events…

I’ve taken up to Spanish 4 and I have 4 years of science (if summer counts as a full year course), English, Social Science, and Math so I’m good on that front. But yeah I’ll definitely look into taking an elective in place, even though I’m doubtful since school has already been in session for 6 weeks.
